Anyone ridin BMX here?

hey, just thought i should mention-
you might want to check out one of those 24" bmx/cruiser things. i was the same way you are (wanting a 20 inch, just like the good old days). but if your 23 i imagine youve grown a little since the good old days. riding a 24" feels like when you were a kid (smaller) riding a 20". the way they make the frame and the handle bars feels comforatable for an adult. remember, im not talking about the huge 26" mountain bikes, but the midsize 24". you seem to have your heart set on a 20", but you really should at least test ride a 24". if anything for your knee cap's sake

i never understood why people on my block would go buy all there fancy shit...like...they would roll up on haros and whatever. and then the next weekend i would get a gt for like ten bucks and spend 45 on new rims.....and then clean my bike up and smash harder than any of those fools. i would seriously just be on the looks for an oldschool one dude if the frame is like 200lbs its a keeper lol. but for real saves you money too. make sure you got these on it

the sunday was a little short so i tried out a longer fly 3 amigos.. i hated the blue and ended up painting it dark brown


the 26inch dirtjumper you can tell its low and isnt your typical mtn bike... the dark brown 20 on the rack is the blue bike above... the grey one is my girlfriends



i tattooed her bike with an engraver



i came across one of these rusted up and missing parts dumped by my apartment complex... i cleaned it up most of the rust was on the chain and bolts.. painted it up girly





it actually looks a little more rough here than it does in person... it looks jagged here



hard to tell but its two tone pink... front half is bubblegum back is more like watermelon

i've never seriously ridden bmx, but i love the bikes. i have been meaning to put together a cruiser like somebody mentioned up the page, but i don't know what to look for. what's good, what sux and all that. so if you know, let me know.

I ended up goin with the we the people Justice complete, the one i posted a pic of.

There were a few fully chromo ones i coulda got, but the there were issues with each that i didnt like - they either

a) had all generic brand parts (eg the DK bikes) and a million stories about like having to replace parts within weeks..
b) or had really short frames (20"/20.25")
or C) were kinda heavy in comparison (29lbs comp. to 25ish).. i relaly wany a light bike that i can throw around easily..

I tried out a 24 - it was super comfy but i didn't feel like i could throw it around easy enough and i wanna do some silly shit with my bike..
Tried 20" - felt a lil cramped
I tried out a 20.5" and that was fine - not gonna run with the seat slammed right down on the frame cos im a little too tall for that, but it worked pretty well for me.

Also I talked to this guy who seemed pretty legit at the bike shop I found (one with a decent BMX range unlike most of em).. he rides the same bike which is pretty encouraging since he gets it at cost basically.

So yeah..

I am PSYCHED for tomorro Think i mite have to wait till afternoon to get it tho then workin tomorro night!

Do u guys wear helmets? I never used to but i think now that i havnt ridden in so long it might be smart of me to wear one least till ive got the hang of it again Also it mite make a good hardcase to put my SP-404 in it in my bag when i go ridin heh


I suspect that in a few weeks i'll be on here asking you guys about upgrading parts already heh... I love upgrading/customising/etc stuff! It's like a new music hardware rig.. except more like a bike

Well then a real crew of producers is in a studio, cmon now. :p Are there any good online forums for bmx? Just in case the combined knowledge of 3 local people isnt as big as the combined knowledge of 500 people from across the world...

When I lived in Austin I'd regularly ride 20 miles or so around the city on a 24" cruiser, the DK Cygnus (it's basically the General Lee with a different color scheme). I was pleased with it, but the rims leave something to be desired... they go out of true easily. If you get one, get a different seat. Anyways, most of the parts that came stock on it are solid. If you have a lot of money, get a Fireman's Four cruiser, they are so nice. Cruisers are fun because the wheels are large enough for stable cruising at a good speed, but they're not too big to easily bunnyhop stairs, gaps, curbs, whatever. If you get a street style cruiser, you will probably enjoy it a lot.

Wethepeople has a cruiser - the geometry on it is quite nice. It feels like a 20" bmx bike.

I also ride a fixie, they're not as fun as a BMX cruiser, but you get places quicker. Maybe later (a few years) I'll get a cyclocross bike or solid steel road bike. I once rode about 50 miles through the Hill Country at like 75 gear inches on a fixie... never doing that again. Fixed gears are good fun for urban life (like, riding from the coffee shop to the bar to the bookstore to the grocery store), but they are not totally practical for touring or extended rides through the countryside. It's all doable though.
