Since when were we not able to use the timestretch in our SP's?

I'm not sure, but it has been a while in the official Rules thread. Better ask iG9. :)

1. All SPs only SPs. all chops, all sequencing. External mastering (E.Q., compression) is ok but don't rearrange anything. The exception to this is if any of the SPs have a useable time stretch feature that is disallowed to be fair to the ones that don't have it.

I feel like a lot of people use time stretch. I used it in the last two battles. it's not vital but I use it. I will probably use it in this battle. :?

I think that as long as it's been done within an SP, it can be considered legal in my opinion.

Its open to debate whether it actually really matters if someone uses timestretch or even BPM sync in a beat versus someone who can't because of gear limitations. The end results here tend to be very good regardless. :)

I say timestretch in your sp using the time/bpm button is fine. I'm pretty sure I've used it on every battle I've entered. It might be slightly unfair in terms of a 202, but should we also stop using our sequencer for battles? I don't think so.
I believe most people here would take into consideration the fact that a beat made on a 202 that has to go up against a 404 with all it's features should not be taken lightly.

Yeah, true dat, but it's like the saying, a better pencil doesn't make you a better artist.

When it comes to beats, I've seen numerous SP-202/303 or 404 beats completely obliterate beats made on much much better and more feature-rich gear.

Meaning, ultimately it might not really matter as much as we'd all think. 8)

i dunno if we should really account for handicaps at all because a person who bought a 202 obviously bought it cause they like it despite its limitations

same with 303

i mean they are what, 10 years old? not saying you can't make beastly beast beats on them, but its not realistic to have everyone downgrade for the 303 and 202's sake

Yeah, I agree. Downgrading doesn't really make much sense. I guess it's all alright though, the basic idea is just having fun.

I think the Open Challenges proof that the kind of gear is subordinate to the skills of a beat maker. It's not like people with arguably the best or most feature-rich gear win every time. :)

Yes, the poll is over.

Basically the rules will be as described in the original Rules topic. You can disregard the part about Pitch and Timestretch, but basically nothing changes.

The two most important things to note are these:

- Open Challenges is the place when winners decide on all the rules
- SP Battles are SP only, use only the provided samples to make your beat
