Re: NEW SP-404 SX
you guys are making me feel like a dick for buying the SX... i like it.. i like it more than the old 404... there may be some scheme going on and not enough bang for the buck but the little difference(s) make it worthwhile for me... im not sure where that big post of stuff came from (the new features list) but ive only seen it here ( i havent looked for it elsewhere).. i agree about the product support and all that... but look at that sampler timeline someone posted... the curve for technology in the sp series is weird.. low to way up to low to up to low... come out a complex system drop it to come out with a basic system... start one project drop it to tune up another only to come out with the basic one again (referring to 303-->*606*-->404-->555-->sx)... the 303 is to the 404 and the 606 is to the? 555? i dont think so... to the MV? sheesh thats a good jump.. it seems like it was 303-404-555 and the 606 just ended up in there somehow... blah blah blah... sorry
euclid... its rad seeing you post a bunch again.. did you get your 303 and korg back?

Yeah, I got my stuff back. I wish the old school people would still post, but it's cool.

Re: NEW SP-404 SX
I'll have to retract my statement about the 404 sample loading app being discussed before the 555 being released, but I still think they could have released that for the original 404 as a support download. Maybe the program from the 404sx will work for the 404, someone should load it and try.

im sure with some finicking and hacker knoweldge you could get it done
on the card reader though, thats a feature that isn't particular to roland only, so its hard to say that they give a shit about us
but i think they are trying to please everybody, (producers, djs, radio hosts, church directors
its like people getting mad at obama for failing to fix things, when people would probably be happier if he never set out to change anything in the first place
give the presi--i mean 404sx a break, yea so what if the only thing hes done is lift a ban on stem cel--- i mean added copy pattern, im sure down the road there will be more improvements, at least now people have shown an interest.

Re: NEW SP-404 SX
to be honest i havent messed with that much... when i use effects i usually use one at a time or use one and resample... if i remember right there is just a smoother transition rather then abrupt changes...like slight fade in fade out...

Did anyone actually try this yet? It does sound a bit bad if Roland made the application SP-404SX only.

Re: NEW SP-404 SX
If it does work that will be great for all the 404 users.

It wouldn't work because the SX can actually load .WAVs, the software isn't converting anything. Whereas with a 404, when you import WAVs from a CF card, it has to convert 'em to Roland's R-DAC format (although it does this on the 404 itself) before they actually show up in the banks.
WAVE CONVERTER SOFTWARE WORKS GREAT
The SP-404SX includes software that converts .WAV files to SP format. Actually, it's more of a script generator, because nothing *really* gets converted. Unlike the conversion software for our other units, there is no utility that converts from SP to WAV, as the files are already WAV. If you want to transfer SP samples to your computer, simply find them on the card and drag them to the desktop. All samples are clearly labeled.

Re: NEW SP-404 SX
Any idea how the pads on this thing compare to the ones on the SP-303? I really hated the pads on the original 404, too chunky and prone to double firing.

Re: NEW SP-404 SX
Damn that R-DAC encoding, on the plus side though the 404sx samples must sound much nicer being full WAV.
