timfromtexas wrote: jeff you had a video on youtube comparing the two tribes and that video and one or two others of yours and another guys on youtube were the reasons i got a tribe.. i watched your stuff on there WAY before i saw you on here... its kinda creepy cuz when youve talked about gear that i already knew you had it gets me a little weirded out... way to go, and thanks

timfromtexas wrote:doing it that way to me still sounds like a rigid track the not just falls a little late in the same spot every time... you need multiple of each sample with alternating spaces resampled in the front for it to sound right... at least in the work flow i use
that's seems to me complicated or, in another point of view, is more like i am expected: the electribes are more coceived for house/techno stuff, and this is not bad (i love both), but this also means that you have to work with more if you want to obtain downtempo/hiphopish/breakbeat things....or not?

Ol Style
Sweepz

I think that's all the ESX tracks on that one. Everything else is Zoom Sampletrak and 2 Reason tracks.

Here's a good ESX1 video. It only uses the KP3 very minimally. HS, the beatmaker, rocks on everything he touches. First heard him on PSP making some crazy wicked DnB.

That's a very very cool beat he made, really sick stuff!

Reminds me a bit of the Flash Bulb's style as well, which I am very much into. I also would assume he used the Kaoss Pad on certain samples as well.

It's sick though, really cool. I'm digging the main rhythm a lot, this sort of style is called Grime (it has a soft dubstep flavor onto it), right?

well, no.
grime is more rough and, above all, is rap/singed too; but someway dubstep take -also(with 2step,d'n'b tricks, dub, techno, ragga, triphop etc)...- the heritage of grime.
some grime artists:so solid crew, wiley, dizzee rascal (the last two are very personal indeed that we cannot really say that is true grime...)

Just thought I'd throw up my 2 cents real quick.

I bought an esx-1 about a week ago. And I'm loving this machine so far.

My only complaints. No usb to pc, and I really don't like the fact that it uses smartmedia cards. I havent even started using any of my own samples yet, I've just been learning the machine with the factory samples though.

Other than that, this is a really fun box. I can manipulate sounds like I've never been able to do before. I recommend thsi fa sho.

when you start using your own samples (even more fun than factory ish) use the sample editor on the korgforums site... its a badass tool and if it didnt exist i would probably hate my esx

Thanks Tim, appreciate that. Yeah I told myself I would learn the machine as much as I could before I used my own samples. Plus, I don't have an extra smartmedia card laying around. ha.

it sucks paying that much for an outdated card but ask around youd be surprised how people dont wanna throw away old electronics.. old cameras with cards still in em... my lady found one of the cards and a reader at her work.. it was a smaller card but still...
you can also go the adapter rout and use the sd cards a lot of people use those and its cheaper too although i donno about the card size thing... i think you still have to use the smaller card size...

other dummie questions (only about esx-1):
1-can you resample patterns with ? (yes i hope)
2-can you use the sliced samples directly to record sequences/patterns from the slice part instead of to put every slice in the sample parts?
3-how key parts work:old school (st224, mpcs etc), or sort of pitch shift fx like (sp505)? in other words: do key part stretch or not the sample?
4-i asked you yet this, but: how to "swing" sample in pads when you record patterns in order not to fall exactly in the pads?
5-can you use metronome "as always" (play+rec etc)? can you use this when you are working in the slice mode?
6-do you have only "one shot" mode for samples?
thanx
