Is there any useful software out there that I can use with my 404, like a little wav player so that I can just here how a sample sounds without having to load up itunes or wmp?

Thanks

VLC can play any media file and doesn't take forever to load. It will also work on all systems around. It's great for just listening to a folder of wavs. Not a huge download either.

VLC is amazing for video

but you want FOOBAR trust me

its as small as you need it, plus it has a really good spectrogram to boot, great for seeing if you are missing high/low content

Foobar is great, but windows only. If you run OSX look elsewhere (ya, I'm a Mac head).

If you're on Mac you can use Quick View, just press the space bar and the file will start playing.

Or, if you happen to have Bridge (Windows or Mac, from the Adobe Creative Suite package), you might want to try that as well. It's basically Windows Explorer with some extra features like easy image and sound previews. If you don't already own it's not worth it though.

This will only help the mac heads but I use audiofinder constantly to browse samples. Two features I love the most are control dragging a portion of a sample to export it to the desktop or another piece of software, and being able to have a midi keyboard connected to it to be able to preview the sample at different pitches and deciding which pitch/speed to sample into the sp (can be done by clicking on a onscreen keyboard as well).

9 outta 10 times I do this. It couldn't be more simple!

Yes, I usually do this as well, but my trusty iBook G4 has finally had enough, so I'm using this HP Mini to transport samples to my 404.

Thnks for the advice, fam
I'll definitely check out FOOBAR and VLC.
