ode to Zoom Sampletrak ST-224

Post by ellaguru »

hi
i have the possibility to take part of a ST224 battle on the sweet st224 forum (http://sampletrak.lefora.com/).
i have to say: THIS SAMPLER ROCKS!!
i thought it was the same as the sp-303 (that i love), but, going into the battle, i see there are differences...
listen:
-you can sample WHILE LISTENING sequences (patterns)...
-you can RESAMPLE SEQUENCES (patterns)...
-you have pitch scale function (like MPC/yamaha su10 & su200/korg esx-1)
-you can COPY samples between pads (and banks!)...
-you can CHANGE SWING WHILE PLAYING...
-the fx: delay/reverb ok; flanger/step cry:CRAZYYY; chorus/phaser:good; lowpass/highpass:nice!; tremolo/autopan: WOW!; time strecth/scratch:good; lofi/compressor:ok (but the sp303 is unbeatable here); pitch shifter/dimension:good...
-you can autosync samples (like the sp-505)
-you have the fx sync mode wich allow you to sync some of the fx with samples...

...frankly, a great machine (and a gritty/dark sound too...), i paid it 70€(104usd) 3 months ago and it came with 3 smartmedia, acdc adaptor and a card reader...
i couldn't ask for more...
now those 2 beast (303+224=527) are loaded to fight&win!! :)

the advice: if you see it for a few money, take it rapid!!!!!!

peace

Congrats, man :)

I've heard a ton of good things about that Zoom Sampletrak. If I don't save up enough money for that microsampler I'll probably snag this if I can find it anywhere.

Yo guru, where'd you cop it from?

I think that woulda been a great deal! Go back and get it :D
I got two of these machines now. First one came from a friend for $45 and my second came from ebay for $30. It was missing an encoder knob and AC adapter which I already had the parts laying around. I know this is an SP forum, but these machines are so close that anybody who's put time in with the Roland samplers will feel right at home on the Zoom. We just love spreading the word so the true heads can get these while they're still "gettable". It is bar none, the most underrated sampler out there.

hi, well there is a really interesting site in france called audiofanzine.fr (they have also an english version of it http://en.audiofanzine.com/) in wich sometimes you find very good sell (sometimes not so) of secondhand musical istruments. there i found the st-224,the mpc1000, the qy70 and the yamaha mtx4 (recorder)....

i want to hang out on the sampletrak forum more, but I read every post and no one is there anymore.

maybe if I start posting and using my 224 more, it might liven up. it seems all the sample trak cats hang out here mostly now.

I traded my 224 to rabot for an SP505. Shortly after that my "spare" 224 stopped working and I haven't got my hands on another working one yet. I'm always keeping my eye out for a good local deal.

yo formal I slept on it so much.

i solder it a bit later and saw one for a decent price in SUPER GOOD condition a month ago and snagged it. my girlfriend plays a electric piano and she just started using it for effects or layering stuff and it's mad dope actually.

hopefully you had a bit of fun with the 505.

Did your GF get a sampletrak or a 505?

The sampletrak makes an awesome companion for other instruments since it can resample ext audio while playing a sequence. It can also work like a ghetto live looper.

The sp505 is still my favorite SP. It may not be as fast as a 404, but the sequencer and nice LcD make up for that.
