Basicaly, last night i ended up coppin a new macbook. I've dabbled with software like cubase and fl. but last night was the first time i felt a solid workflow, i was using garageband with my interface and the sp, solid workflow. Basicaly the point of this is i want to get Record as it seems ideal for my workflow, does anyone here have any experience with it?? i've watched loads of vids on it and i will probs be getting but wanna see what the sp villains are saying first.

It wasn't until I started using record that I felt the stability and speed were there with the computer for me to just sequence in audio. I guess I'm more comfortable looking at audio waveforms than blocks of midi notes, and cutting audio clips and doing fades as opposed to messing with sampler amp and filter envelopes.

I don't want to preach about Record but it's as if I needed to use a simpler program to realize the computers potential. I love that you can chop up clips with a the razor then right there in the sequencer, adjust levels per clip. I know this is probably a feature in every single program but I never figured out how to do it as visually intuitively in other daw's i've used. Since I use sp effects and just print them onto the track I don't need to worry about tons of plugins. I love how I can just switch over to the mixer and I have eq, compression, and sends all set up without me having to load them and navigate from plugin window to window. I just have a template setup with a mastering chain on the master output, generally the stock "hip hop" one cus it has 4 knobs set up perfectly (comp input, kick gain, snare gain and limiter input) perfect for an impatient idiot like me. I setup a bunch of scream 4's on the sends for parallel distortion/compression on tracks. That's all I need!

you have to keep on the internet while using it. not a problem if your studio is also your main computer, but for people who travel around with their shit its no good at all...

Yeah, i kinda went on and on about it in that post but I'm pretty critical of my gear and software and am not afraid to admit something's not for me so you won't hear that from me for everything I've bought.

The dongle/internet thing could be an issue for people. However, the dongle thing doesn't bother me. In fact, all you need it for is to open projects, and certain bounce operations. I've gone days working on some stuff, just leaving it open, saving often, and then noticed later the dongle was out or not seen (I got a ghetto usb hub). I just plug it back in and I'm set to go. No downtime. Your don't need to be connected to the internet while using record if you've registered your physical dongle which you can do on a different computer than the one Record is on. It's just that if you don't have the dongle attached, the computer needs internet to verify through the props website you are the owner. Kind of like a virtual dongle.

If Record would work for you I guess it depends on what kind of workflow you are into. I know people can rock the internal sp sequencers or mpc's but I like using the tape machine paradigm, albeit with the ability to cut and edit and move bits of recorded audio around.
Feel free to post any specific questions and I'll try to answer them.

sounds like we would have similar workflow. I have no interset in working with midi., just audio. from what i've read and heard it does seem like the ideal software for me, the lack of menus is great. also like how easy it is to switch between mixer and arrangement.

dongle doesn't bother me at all but i will be keeping my mac of the net, only to reg it.

if you want a simple recording program then Record is great IMO. i personally love propellerheads products, although i won't be getting record as i have no use for it. i did have the opportunity to use record extensively during the beta period and i was actually quite impressed. the time-stretching feature is pretty amazing and the mixer is top quality.

again if you're coming from a hardware background i think record is pretty cool because it doesn't overload you. when i turned to software i had no need or desire for hundreds of plugs (that changed soon after ) and i wanted something simple that had everything needed to make tracks all in one package. that's why i got reason. i rewire reason now though..

think about what you would like to do with the software and what features you would like. then see if record has these features. if you still plan on using your sp a lot you won't need a lot of extras in your daw anyway.

I just record with CoolEdit2000...oldy but goldy...worx fine 4 me cause that´s all I do with it ...record music.
