is it even worth it to record the tracks individually and try to mix it down a bit on ableton? theres some noise being added for sure, ive tried abit of noise cancellation but that doesnt really work and its not something im sure i want to use on my beats anyways.

any thoughts?

what are your computer specs? you could buy a real cheap interface from walmart or something. I track all my sounds individually, kicks, snare, bass, etc. I would suggest an interface, but some songs sound decent with a little noise. Sublime - What I Got is a classic with a lot of background noise.

all those noise cancellations are pretty much bullshit, the most they can do is gate out the sound

or in some cases "rebuild" the sound with spectral nonsense and it sounds like shit

audio interfaces are cheap (as low as 100$) and well worth it

then you can mute everything but the drums and track them out and do the same with everything else

even with 2 tracks with drums separate you can get a dramatically better sounding mix.

just if you do get one...use your ears man....use your ears....

alright, so i got the 100 bones im gonna find me an interface since ive needed one for years and just put it off cause i didnt give a shit but NOW I DO, YOU CANT HOLD ME DOWN WORLD IM THE SHIT.

but heres another question:if i get one whats a good method to make sure my beat syncs up after i record in the seperate tracks?

i tried this last night with my lame mic in method, and was pondering different ways. i ended up pressing record on ableton and play on my (in this case) mpc at the same time, not very scientific, but once it was in i moved the tracks around to line up. this turned out to work out fine but im curious as to maybe alternative methods?

I have seen walmart and target sell them for around $40 - $50. I would def pick one up. And yea, noise cancelation is bullshit. Unless you have thousands of dollars worth of programs that make paris hilton sound like a pop sensation......yea, get an interface.

any recommendations on specific interfaces? i hear firewire would be the best bet for latency. i dont think i need many ins because im not going to be recording a band or mulitple instruments much.

theres a behringer one on the walmart website, there are a few music stores around here that probably have more than that. hmmmmmm.

in ableton right click where you started

"set 1.1.1 here"

then right click again to make sure no warping happens

"warp straight from here"

and if you have the same tempo on both ableton and your mpc then it will line up

lexicon makes good interfaces. as for lining up your tracks, you can go through the mpc, or buy a cheap maudio midisport uno. I think I paid 30 for it. But what I suggest, this is what I do and it works, Make a pattern of 2 bars that has nothing on it (using the subsonic effect on a pad with a sample you are not using will achieve this), and start recording with that. Reason being is for the first bar, at least for me, the midi doesn't line up right away. Do each track using this method then delete the first two bars out of ableton. I use Logic pro but I imagine it's the same. Good Luck. Let me know how it turns out.

that is actually very unnecessary in ableton because of the way it lets you move things around but very useful if you are sending your tracks to other people to be mixed down.
