i was lookin into those 2500's they look fucking amazing. if i could id buy one in a heartbeat over the 555, mostly because i have a 404 already so i wouldnt bother getting the 555 even though its dope as fuck. the 555 can do a bit more than the 404 which is cool and worth the buy, but the 2500 is fucking crazzzzzzzy looking. it basically does 20 times what the 555 can do except it doesnt have the effects...but your 404 DOES, to have both would be crazy imo.

ill say it again....all ya'll are underestimating the 555 saying its just an upgraded 404.

i bet if dr dre came on record tomorrow saying he produced the chronic with a 555 people would be snatchin em up like hot cakes

wait how many mpcs did dre have to have to finish his tracks?

i dunno i lost count

not that I'm an expert, but I was under the impression that he just had multiple MPC's because he could, and he doesn't like having to load different kits. I don't think there is anything on any of his records that couldn't have been done on a single machine due to some sort of limitation. i mean dj shadow did make endtroducing using just an MPC 60, and RJD2 made his entire dead ringer album on a 2000(XL?) and even mixed the whole thing down in the MPC. not too mention as was previously stated how far prefuse has pushed the machines.

i'm not saying that mpc's are the be all end all, but I do think they sometimes get overlooked because they are the standard.

having said that I've been kinda hating on the MPC's lately too because they got so popular and killed the rest of the hardware sampler market back in the day. I thank that as samplers the EPS/EPS16+/ASR10 are way ahead of the MPC...The MPC just had it's sequencer and those pads...but as far as creative sampling goes the ensoniq machines had it on lock...what I wouldn't give to have an EPS in a microkorg form factor....

why you gotta bring facts to the table

im just taking potshots cause theres all of three people on these boards who have spent considerable time with a 555 enough to know what it can do.

and theres no shortage of mpc heads anywhere....

but i seem to recall acosta talking about how people "hit a wall" with mpcs

and thats why people had so many

again not sure but im just taking pot shots...cause they need to be taken.

i dont think its that much better than the 404 really. some cool shit the 404 should have. midi/velocity/16 pads and a couple cool extra features. the 555 is amazing, any sp is amazing and i would say get one over an mpc if they dont already HAVE an sp. the 555 does not have all the features the mpc 2500 does have. the mpc has more ish you can do than the 555 production wise. like auto chop/recording midi into it etc. and the 404 takes care of everything else effect wise and shit. i would definatly upgrade to a 555 if my 404 broke or some shit. im not trying to put down your girlfriend 555 hd hahaha.

i know you're not, but still you are underestimating it. the "just another couple of features" add up to way more than you think and really open the door to do whatever you want to do and not just what the machine lets you out of limitation

i know people are probably lookin at my shit and going "oh he uses a computer too so the 555 probably isn't that great"(or maybe not) but i am under using it compared to what is possible on it solely without other gear.

i know the mpc is a time honored classic and what not but slicing and sequencing isn't worth all the other big limitations that come with using a 15 year old piece of gear

haha i know man. i know the 555 is crazy and i dont underestimate it whatsoever. and of course that opens up doors but so would an mpc. and i never said anything about computers haha. i dont look at peoples music thinking "damn he uses a comp he isint as good" or some shit mang. im just sayin the mpc would open up just as many doors if not more. and there is more to the 2500 than sequencing and chopping man. it as well has effects etc. its really sick man. they are both sick either would be a cool purchase, just sayin regardless of your style of music id still get the mpc over a 555 because i already have a 404.

i know nobodies mentioned computers.. but still there is an aura about computers here to be looked down upon 8)

i didnt mention it as a benefit cause IIIII doesnt use computers...but having a souncard and interface built in is cause enough to buy it at the price alone

but im mostly repping the 555 cause i strongly believe that IIIII could make cooler shit to listen to on it than an mpc 404 combo....

ive heard mpc beats and they are good but ive also heard panda bear.....

that's what i said before. if i got a 404 i will stay with this, if i had a 555 i won't take a 404.
HD, i say this beacuse to me it seems really an upgrade of the 404. same screen. almost same fx.
correct me, but the only rilevant different things seem to be:
1)loop capture
2)roll
3)better sequencer
4)midi out+usb port
5)2 fx at the same time
6)dbeam+internal synth
7)sensitive pads
not bad, but then i will sell my 404 (if i'd got one).

it's maybe true, but this machine has made many historical records that became standards. and i'm not talking only about hiphop. if you're looking brian eno studio or underworld studio (maybe peter gabriel studio too) they also got an mpc2000xl, this could says something...
so i think 404+2000xl=dead combo.

the mpc1000 can became almost the same machine of the 2500 installing the right os...and is cheaper ehehehe....

lol @ beat thang... i hate that name soooo much(it's fucking stereotypical)

BUt f all u guys for sleeping on my 606...

nah but lets not forget how Pete Rock did (i think) Freddy Foxxx'x joint w/ and SP-505 and to a certain extent KevBrown until he jumped up to a 2kxl... actually they both did...

all in all i think u will find somethin to love/hate with either unit... and i agree with the ensoniq gear... it's a shame that the cats that created those samplers didnt put as much effort into what they did for korg's workstation samplers... a 200 dollar piece is needed jus to sample with those things....

6)dbeam+internal synth

you forgot copy pattern
and you say it like "only these..." sheesh those are a lot of upgrades, especially when you get creative with them, and it makes it a completely different beast.
when you consider that a looper pedal costs a few hundred and an audio interface a few hundred as well.... its like the difference between a civic stock and rice rocketed with features 4 times the price of the actual car itself

and the only thing that comes close to what the 555 does with effect memory is ableton lives' dummy clips and those are a "hacked" feature and not actually supported.

as far as i know there is no real filter on the 404 only the Lowpass and drive... the 555's filters (LP BP Notch Highpass and the OG drive + LP) are smoother than anything ive touched on my computer or even my kaoss pad

i really think the 404 heads ( and i mean this in the nicest way possible) should ditch the 404 for the 555 if they get a chance

you wont look back...
