MPC 2000XL(Blue) for $500 US

the cool thing about the SPs is that you can just jam and let things play out in weird ways, and then you find out what sounds good. It's by ear and hands, you know what I mean? I wouldn't want to have to read through the MPCs lists and deal with time delays and whatnot. Not knocking the MPC, but if you want to make psych stuff or tap out beats live, improvise, whatever, I think the Roland stuff sounds like it works out better. If the way you work is with a preplanned sound and beat in mind, and you like to sit and "work," it seems like the MPC is the way to go.

Thanks guys. some good feedback here. wouldn't mind trying a st-224 but i dont think its work flow would work with how i construct my tracks. maybe as another piece of equipment in the future. i never like to use a computer, i'm hardware up until the point of uploading it to the internet. so i think ill go with the 555. the mpc will be a very nice addition in the future but im a budget. i need something that i can hop on and continue down the road im on i think.
right now I use my 404 until the polyphony is used up, structure the whole track and what not. then track out out thru an equalizer to my 8 track in stereo. then build on that, usually with extra percussion and vocals if they fit. master out to the 8 track master or to tape if it'll lend to the sound of the beat. maybe in the future ill grab an mpc for drums, they always get a nice punchy feel on those machines... but to combine a 555 with a 404 may open things up for me.
plus i hate sub menus. i love my micron but its a bitch to work with... *click turn turn click turn click turn*... its a headache. i need the knobs. i also do all my time stretching right now with my 404. i kinda dig the glitchy sound it gains from it, throw some reverb on it and you can cover it up mostly.
seems the mpc is better for producers that sample 'loops' while i chopchopchop till then loop at much as my poly will let me. i need to be quick about it or my ideas disappear. PLUS someone needs to make some good 555 vids, right?? gota break out my video camera

yes it's a nice real piece of gear. good warm sound, live swing, pitch scale or play, resample sequences, some good fx etc etc

the way i use it is, having all my samples/drums across all the banks in seperate mute groups etc and jus rock it out rather than seperate programs for evrything. i try to use it very much like an sp in the term that everything is to hand. and as far as menus go, they will take secondfs to go through, really not a problem. also the 1k is a beast for your chops. anyway, totally irrelevant seenin as the 1k aint on the list but sp and mpc combo is like hovis bread, best of both.



i would love an xl and a 555, gear lust hahaha.

I have the SP 404 and MPC 2000XL and it's a powerhouse combination. If your heavy on chopping you can chop on your SP and have the MPC MIDI'd up so you can tap your chops out in the MPC's sequencer. I don't think you'll regret buying the 2000XL, it's dope.

the 2.5k is sweet cuz u can sample yourself playing a keyboard or whatever right into it, while playing your sequence... it also comes with hpf/bpf/lpf and lfo comtrols... other than that it's more menus...

the 2kxl is more str8 forward way less menus but only lpf and no direct record features... But this makes it easier and since u have an sp it u can rock it in a ways that the 2.5k offers...

plus the 2.5k may ask for more doe from you when u implement things like JJOS which changes the WHOLE platform... if the 2kxl had it, id buy it...


the price of that 2.5k seems kinda fishy... my boy got ahold of a deal like that and everthing was new except for a faulty power supply... if u go to see him for either unit, plug em in and get to shakin!

yeah ive heard the jjos is an amazing thing. i like the idea of being able to sample and listen to loops at the same time, since i play with other musicians. that would save a lot of time/trouble. i also like the 10 outputs in the back... and it goes for 1500+ new. so 600 might be too good to pass up. ill have to sell something though. thinking about my alesis micron, never really use it anymore

even with the 1000 (and i think the 500) this is possible...maybe the 2000xl too, but you have to manipulate the os...

One thing to remember if you have never used an MPC is to not dismiss them so quickly, just because they are the standard..that's like not listening to Reasonable Doubt because Jay married Beyonce' etc. You don't have to loop shit on the MPC, you can use one just like the SP minus the effects and what not...

as far as menus and submenus, the 60 and 3K as far as workflow go are both the quickest to use IMO, the 2000xl is the standard MP with all the features you need and the 1K and 2500 are amazing with the JJOS...

BUT you don't have to quantize in them, you can midi up your SP (the user above said) you can make a sequence in your sp using the SP timing hook it up to the MPC, hook up your microkorg with two midi cables and everything you play gets remembered...it's pretty amazin once you start using external modules which is really what it was meant for in the first place (just drums and a Midi Production Center)

just keep an open mind, I used to kill them because everyone said you had to have them, then I got a 60 and it changed my life
