hey folks...

due to the fact, that i cannot afford one of this expensive soundcards.... i am wondering if i can use the sp as one...

so, my problem is that i am recently using my mpc 2000xl more than my sp555. anyhow. i cannot connect my mpc via midi with my soundcard. but i heard that the sp is able to act as one. i need the midi function in order that i control the mpc from the pc, SO THAT ALL TRACKS/ SEQUENCES THAT ARE RECORDED HAVE THE SAME START POINT. to do this i want to use the sp as an connection between mpc and pc. IS THIS POSSIBLE????

hey, the soundcard on my laptop has been blown forever so just the other day i set up my sp 555 with the laptop and poof, i have a soundcard. and not only does it work with other daw software, it worked for all the sound in my entire computer. i looked a little deeper and found out that it was automatically set to be the computers soundcard. i didnt know it could do this, i thought you could only use the soundcard part of it for software programs exporting the audio to the 555 but i was watching youtube videos and porn(tee hee hee) and all the audio came through the 555. on my desktop it only works if i do like hurling said, set your drivers to the 555.
i think you have to set your computers soundcard to the 555, like inside control panel and sound devices (if your on a pc). since my laptop had to soundcard i guess it did it automatically.
so the 555 is even better then i thought cause now i can make music on my laptop once again.

Try increasing internal processing level to +6dB...(cancel+time/end/level+ctrl3) especially when recording external sources.
I was struggling with input level to Sonar LE... now it is fuckbelivable.
Last month I've almost sold my 555 for audio interface but than I bougt me
an old Westone bass guitar... always wanted to have one... how I was so stupid I did not get one earlyer...

man, i took it to +12db and its still lower than id record it normally. the signal is there but its pretty low. like id have to normalize everything i record to get a reasonable looking wave signal. the internal processing thing kind of pissed me off cause i was all like" yeah, i can record through the usb, but its so low that id rather record the line out"
no big deal tho.

thats definitely not right

if i put my level at +12 i would be beyond clipping

its probably your programs problem check the preferences for....something i dunno what but somethings not right

well, im using cubase so ill check a few things out but i totally have to go to 12db before i even get the little green bar to go halfway up. maybe its cubase. i have ableton installed ill try that as well, since i think thats what your using.

half way up is more than enough but you should be getting more than that

most studios will record you at "halfway up" so theres enough space not to clip on accident

and if you arent having noise problems with your gear you should be able to boost it without any distorion

I don't need to boost the internal processing level more than +6dB and i'm
recording to Sonar LE. When I record synth: synth output goes first into mixers preamps (stereo) and than I squash it a bit with FMR RNC compressor. This signal from comp. than goes into sp555 and via USB to pc.
RNC is really usefull and very transparent. As said before half way up is enough if the source is noiseless.

springwater, when you are recording do you use SP555 audio driver at the same time also for monitoring?... I don't.
I use good ol' Creative SB live! 1024 soundblaster for monitoring while tracking LOL.

Anyone here have experience with MOTU ultralite soundcard on PC?
I think the time has come to get me a decent soundcard.

well, i never checked it out with samples, ive only run a few test since ive had it and im usually recording from my mic with the phantom power. i have a audio technica shotgun-like mic and i plug it right in and usb it through cubase and the sound is very low. i havent had a chance to try it since we've been discussing it but ill give it a whirl when i can. but thats not really too big an issue for me cause i have no problem recording into cubase thru the line out.
be just nice to know what level my meter should be since im now mix master but i love to learn stuff, like when i found out that your master track should never go over 0db. i was mind blown. then i figired out how to eq to have everything sit right in the mix. i been recording for years and never thought to figure it out. i posted some hip hop i produced on here and the quality is crap.
so im learning.
much love for the help, guys.

yea man i totally avoided learning anything realistic about mixing until this year
im kind of glad i went with blind experimenting for so long but i kind of regret it too...

now i just have silly memories of
"why cant i have 1000 synths occupying the same frequency range??11!!" although i didn't even know how to say that...i just boosted every frequency and dropped compressor presets

but when you are recording into the SP make sure the Blue light is nice and full but not red and you very well should have full volume coming out of it

but at the end of the day its always better to turn it up than to turn it down, because most likely you will have clipped and lost information

yeah, i consider myself a beat producer and made trillions of beats in the past with just fruity loops since like version 3. i got cds galore of just bad mixes and very low beats. i was totally a compressor fan cause i like how it boosted my beats and made em sound clearer. then i got a hold of a multiband compressor and thought i was the man. now that im on youtube learning about parallel mixing and frequency ranges, i feel like a retard. but youtube wasnt out back in 2000 when i was at my beat peak.
hurling you should find some of those old recordings and we should start a post full of bad mixed beats. id love to resurrect a few cds of mine.
