i like it all except for BONKERS...and all that redux wobble

i would call burial dubstep though, its just not like the other guys, more garage influenced,

theres some uptempo wonky beats like dorian concept on here though that are nasty...

its not the best collection of songs, but theres a time and a place for everything though, this ain't a headphone trip you know?

these people are making massive strides to try and get dirty basslines into hiphop...hit or miss and its making an impact

jay-z is supposed to be working with chase and status...which is LOL worthy but will be interesting to see how that turns out

Id say he was straight 2step- like he is heavly influenced by el-b.....
I dunno it just sounds alot like 2step to me, the cut up vocals, the skittery drums and the more subtle bass...

fuck genres anyhow lol

i guess i'm kinda out of my element since youre from the other side of the pond and all, but i remember back in like 2003/4 there were some compilations that came out on rephlex simply called grime and featured people like kode9, loefah, digital mystikz, mark one and some others. I also remember around this time there being some debate as to whether it was instrumental grime or dubstep. I'd been aware of grime for a while before this, but I had always associated it with emcees...anyways i agree with you that labels are kinda dumb and pointless (wonky, funky both sound kinda silly). I just wanted to put it out there that my above statement wasn't made out of ignorance.

oh and nation,   :?:       :?

yea burial is huge on 2-step, but i never heard any 2-step that didn't sound straight out of the gay club  i still love 2-step garage beats though...cant get enough of them.

definitely a split going on in dubstep, the crazy jump up songs getting pick up by rappers and the more garage and hip hop stuff slowing down to the 130's and 90's

then its basically j-dilla-dubs

@reignbear

No hard feelings. I just thought it was funny that you called me out for making jackass comments.

I would still rather hear something from plastician without the LA hip hop in it.

A lot of the new dubstep is more like rolling "wonky garage UK funky dubstep 130bpm house," which is oftentimes really cool, and sometimes really boring.

uk funky is boring....period haha
(except for cooly G-lovedub...shes a pretty good producer, especially on that track)

dance hall beats and fake trumpets aren't the way foward....

lots of stuff happening with the dilla meets garage stuff though

heres a much better mix with some dilla and jaylib mixed with the wonky stuff
http://soundcloud.com/djkhole84/hipster-genocide

i listened to that mix twice now...such a sweet vibe

i hate to call it wonky but its more like future hip hop

So how do you guys tell the difference between dubstep, grime and UK garage by listening to it.

grime is usually much much more simple, though it does overlap

garage has a very specific beat style...usually 130-135 swung breakbeats
not halfstep, so the focus is on the off beats of 1 2 3 4 instead of 1 and 3

dubstep is triplet based halftime.

but it gets blurrier because you got all those angry dnb heads making straight 1/16 note stuff which is near impossible to dance to, the triplets are what give it dance-a-bility

Grime production is kind of like 2 step garage mixed with dancehall and hiphop. Garage is house influenced by the UK hardcore history; there's a skittering beat that isn't weighty, r'n'b ish vocals, and such. More feminine. Dubstep was the evolution of dark 2-step, with heavier kicks, a big sense of space and reverb, and a snare on the third beat and rolling basslines, incorporating aspects of all sorts of other types of music. Now dubstep is almost a meaningless term, because you have the mid range wobble half step stuff, and then the 4/4 techno stuff, and then bass oriented "IDM,' wonky, etc. Now it's sort of slowing down and mutating in different directions.

Anyone feel free to correct me on this stuff!

it's a matter of opinion...i tend to dislike lyrics over dubstep or drum and bass, i just want to enjoy the music
