hey there,
i'm wonnnnerin if anyone has found a beat-production type of book that they've found helpful. i get a lot of information from reading interviews with artists / producers i respect and admire (which is great), but i have been looking for more of a studio-based production book (specific to sample-cultcha). thought i'd see what you know of.

again, i'm looking for something based around sampling (etc) cuz i've already read a fair bit about studio recording techniques.

any thots?

i brought this from a flea market for a dollar or two. i dont think you would be interested. doesnt really teach you much. just talks about digging/beatmaking culture. but i enjoyed it.

fanx for these. they didn't come up with my searches (maybe it was a dot ca versus dot com thing), but i'll browse thru 'em. do you know these boox hematurge, or was this just a search you did?

Sahpreem King has a book out that was pretty informative can't recall the name of it tho, I'm sure if you search the name you'll be certain 2 find it....hope it's of some use to you.

hey there, just an update on my original question about boox. i ended up ordering a smattering of stuff from amazon, and am going thru things now.

one thing i picked up was the "beattips manual" by a dude named Sa'id. his grammar is, uh, questionable, but the content is pretty solid so far (about a quarter of the way in). of note! there are NO references to the SP series of samplers (other than the sp-1200 which is obviously a different thing). this is written very much for the softsampler or MPC set up. howevs, the concepts and ideas all relate to our machines.

i also picked up the book on DJ Shadow's Endtroducing... in that 33 1/3 series of boox (basically each little book is a writer or another musician writing about ONE album at length - the Endtroducing... one has a text intro of several pages, and then a really extensive interview with Shadow. so far this is great).

so if yr looking to get yr book on, i feel pretty solid recommending these to anyone who's lookinininin.
