sequencing another drum machine on the 505

so I have an sp 505 that is synched with a dr-550. Im trying to figure out how to properly trigger the 550 from the 505 (writing patterns). any suggestions?

study both manuals and find or set channel they are sending MIDI messages thru. set both machines to the same channel and make the 505 MASTER (never used this feature but I guess it is under the midi settings in the system screen). this is a bit of tinkering but if you set channels correctly you should be able to trigger DR's drums sounds using 505 pads.
