Worshiping the SP

I visited my parents this weekend and the only piece I got with me was my sp.
Only today, I think I have made about three complete beats, using only my sp and some of my father's records (traditional greek music).
I really underestimated this piece when I got it. I thought it was just a toy but now i swear by it.

I really think the sp-505 is the nuts!.. It would be great if a more fresher, up to date model was made. This should include optional battery power, usb connector, a built in mic, more polyphony, more memory, better media storage and velocity sensitive pads... How damm cool would that be er!!???

but for the moment roland is occupied to ipnotize people with "false" new product (see the sp-404 section, please) eheheh ....

what i miss in the sp-505 is just sensitive pads, ROLL (but you have tips to do that), 2fx at once and .wav export, nothing less nothing more...
...pratically i described a more performant sp-606...

the 505 (and maybe 606) are the most slept on pieces in the SP arsenal, no doubt about it. the Five-Oh is a great little machine.

if I had to add to the 505 i would give it adsr envelopes, 16 voices, pitch, end point looping ( like just the tail of a sound ), and a second fx set.

and the sequencing engine from an rm1x.

16 voices i agree. 2nd fx- as i said me too - wouldn't be bad at all. pitch: if you mean old way pitch i cannot disagree, but i like the pitch function in this machine anyway, it's unique.
end point looping: what do you mean exactly?

yeah that's what I meant. the s20 does it the asrx did it the mpc2000 did it. it just seems like such a basic thing. but then again so does true pitching ( like when the sample slows down when it's transposed down). don't get me wrong I love the pitch effect on the 505. but I like to pitch things down to extend their length and without the ability to loop the tails of samples it's tough. but I can't do 99% of the shit that I do on my 505 on any of the samplers I've owned in my past.
so yeah I love it.

yes that's the magic of pitch that roland seems to don't understand or understimate...i agree 100%.
other thing: with real pitch you got really other sounds. you can't obtain those sounds with any instrument.
i bought the zoom st-224 wich does real pitch too.

yeah i used an asxr from 03-05 it was a dope machine but you couldnt work fast on it. then i sold it for a yamaha su700 that i still use every now and then
in late 07 i found an mpc2000 for 300 bucks and i made a couple dozen beats on it then sold it to this dude mr leg.

i just wasnt feeling it.

when i was a kid 18-22 i rocked an emu esi2000 and an rm1x to sequence it. i also rocked a couple s900s that didnt work right.

through all those samplers the only ones that stand the test of time as far as letting me work fast and creativly are the akai s20 the yamaha su700 and the 505.

...s**t, the yamaha su700 is everytime in the top of my thoughts, i failed buying it 1 or 2 times...
how do you solve the save-data thing? you use only floppydisks or you have a zip reader (wich is not particularly stable , i read...)? i found some comments in the yahoo.groups that tells about a compact flash reader for the su700. plus i found this: http://www.scsiforsamplers.com/compchart.asp on wich they made a "parade" of all sort of compact flash readers for -almost-sort of samplers...and the yamaha su700 , apparently, accept this card reader...

what wasn't in your feels with the mpc2000?

i'm a big fan of my 505, but i've basically filled all the internal User Banks with beats.

anyone else had this problem? what did you do? is there a way to back these internal ones up, or do you just have to start deleting the guys?

(note: i've also looked at the su200 a few times on vintagesynth, etc.)
