I don't know if anybody has heard about this, but after a recent trip to Roland's Web site I noticed that they made a program that can convert samples made on that machine from its native format into .wav and vice versa, for PC and Mac. There's also an OS update.

The WAV converter software was available way back when the SP-808 and SP-808EX were being sold.
Roland has not updated the WAV converter software for use with MAC OSX, so for a potentially large number of users, they've actually made sure this software has become obsolete, and limited the usefulness of the SP-808 machines.
