ive played a tiny on both. and for many reasons, it seems the micron is superior.
i dont need a vocoder, so that is a mute point. mostly for the grimey synth, heavy wobbled bass's... u know. just curious what yall think... werd

microkorg lets you tweak every patch easier it looks like

and the micron is more of a digital sound, but it sounds good

pros cons....they are both great

it seems as though the micron is better if you play keys. more wholesome, but the korg might be better for beat production.
who actually uses either of these for there beats?

get neither...get a MC-909...best beatmachine i ever had but that´s a way different story i guess :D

Now back to ur 2 minikeyboards...the main thing is.... WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO WITH IT? and not what would I do or him or her ....I just buy hardware that suits my musical situation (that´s why I´m getting me a SP-606 instead of a MV-8000/8800)

If you want both the qualities then I´ld buy a Korg electribe.
None the less I´m more a technohead anyway and don´t understand too much about making hiphop so I might be sorta on the wrong track

my friend has the microkorg xl and i have a micron. we apply each to different things. the micro has awesome sub bass and sounds more modern. the micron is more vintage sounding, and works well for hooks. the microkorg is better for sound adjustments on the fly and the micron is well suited for long term tweaking sounds to get the perfect patch. id say the minikorg if your doing more rhythm stuff and the micron if your going to be doing more leads. plus the microns sequencer is really helpful when building ideas.

also the micron is good for texture and more complicated evolving/modulating patches.

the way i see it is if you just want quick dirty bass patches go with the korg, if you want the ability to do those(with a bit more work) and a whole mess of other stuff go with the micron which has FM, an extra oscillator, drums, sequencer, more modulation options etc, but is less immediate with it's programing. although you can get editors for your computer to build micron patches with real time control of all parameters.

all that being said if you just want deep aggressive bass and wobblz, the mopho is in the same price range and will give you better bass...

are you going to be sampling sounds from the synth or playing live and multitracking?

yes i. cheers. im pretty well set on the korg. i think the micron seems better for a keys player. im a drummer, so i think i can probably mash the korg better for my beats. the micron seems a little too treble for me. yes i

I know it's subjective,

but people on VSE etc are always raving about how the micron/ion engine sounds really analogue for a digital synth!

I had a bit of a play with the micron and thought it sounded nice.. interface sucked.. I've never tried a microkorg to compare it to though

i've g a micron. it sounded AWESOME before it decided to stop making sound. so i just use it as a controller. very annoying with the single dial though... turn and push, turn and push.... and it's flimsy too, bummer. but some of the patches you see people making on youtube... wow it sounds great. but i'd recommend getting a warranty, cuz i can't do shit with mine anymore :(

Micron takes a whole different level of patience to tweak..I sold mine quickly, where as the korg is way simple..all the parameters are chilling there on the machine for you to reference, plus the vocoder is good

If I had to choose between the 2, I would get the micron without a doubt. I personally think the microkorg sucks. I've played it a few times and I think it sounds only so-so, modulation and editing seems very limited and they keys are horrible. The micron has more capabilities, better features ( sequencers and the like) and has a better sound engine, plus real keys. Im a drummer also, and they small keys will not help you at all. But I went with a dave smith mopho ( for the same price) because of the sound and the modulation capabilities, plus the SOUND.
