Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
*yawn*
repackaging of somw features of the 555. The "improved effects" are right off the 555. Bit Crash and the tragically redesigned Vinyl Sim are there. Nothing new here. Roland seems very content repackaging their products and doing nothing new.
I do like the darker color though over the current 404.

They're only evil when you put an Apple or Micro$oft operating system on them.
But concerning pitch shift, I really like being able to quantify the amount of pitch in units of cents or half steps instead of a unit-less knob to tweak.

Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
if the pads are really better, we could use them for the ol 404...
Too bad I already ordered some. Think I'm getting the old ones...

Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
I'd rather see a battery powered 303 than this shit!

yes, truly.
i posted something like that in the "303 tricks and tips" section, but i don't know if it's working.
Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
I know that you can hack the 303 to make it battery powered, but I got mine from the pawn shop and the thing was just like new. I'm just not willing to fuck it up. Bought the 404 just so I could take it with me and make shit on my lunch break. Still would be nice I just like the 303 so much more.

sadly true.
the st-224, the mpc and the sp-555 (you own it if i remember well) can.

i still didn't try to do it...maybe is not possible...some of the electribes can...
Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!

Just get a battery pack that matches the power supply requirements of the 303.. it will definitely work
voltage: same preferably.. slightly less should work fine (eg, electribes work off 7.2V even though they say they need 9V).. slightly more is possibly dangerous... depends how well the 303 circuit was designed.. dont risk it.
current:
Power requirements on the 303 will be measured in mA or perhaps just A (milliAmps or Amps)
Batteries are measured in current-hours.. almost always this is mAh (milliamp-hours)
Say you have a 2500mAh battery - it can provide 2500mA for one hour.
If the 303 only needs 500mA, then a 2500mAh battery will supply the 303 for about 5 hours.... so the more mAh the better with batteries
And of course, make sure you get the ring/tip polarity right on the plug. - although its not such a problem with batteries, just needs to be the right way round to work
Samples.

thanx for this advice cartesia.
this would be very cool.
Due to my ignorance, maybe is better to listen to some expert/professional about it. (i remember that Euclid Ov Oåklånd didn't agree with 303+batteries working...)
...sorry for the off topic guyz...

Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
this may sound weird and against the grain...
there is an sp-606 for sale a few hours away from me.. ive always thought highly of that machine and even with its flaws some good stuff seems to come out of its users.. so i found the machine on the roland website and was watching a few videos on it.. basically i was watching the functions the 606 has and then thinking why dont they still make these it could easily be the mpc500 (roland version) and with some polishing be the step between a 404 and the mv8800... i was watching mike acosta use the function button to navigate around the machine and im thinking how did that button only now come back onto the sampler? 404 to 606 to death of the 606 back to a 404 that isnt even as good as the 606? why didnt they bring out a bangin 606? or shit even a more bangin 909? it seems like history is repeating its self... the next gear to come out will be a slightly better 606 then the mc808le or something.. or nothing and im drunk

Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
it's nice that roland wanted to upgrade our beloved 404, but I think they should've done their homework a little better.
Even though SDHC port and all those shortcuts ( like pattern copy) look great
