Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
it will be good for live stuff, if the backup works the way jbl outlined. no more switching cards...

if the 404 had the 505 pitch shifting and at a low estimate has a draw of 800mA (from the 505 manual)of power 6 batteries
....guys, the sp-505 pitch function (not an fx, a function) is a far dream also for the mpc, eheheeh...
Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
I don't get it. What's the use of more than 1GB cards with the 120 samples limit?
Anyway, I've heard that the SP-404 doesn't store tempo settings. Does the SP-404SX lack this too?

Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
the extra room will allow backups up your patterns and samples. probably wont allow tempo backups either... i just write them down/ hope i remember them

I can almost guarantee that you will be able to backup 12 slots of 10 banks on the 404sx rather than just 12 slots of the internal A/B banks on the 404.
Total samples and patterns on one card with:
SP-404
(2*12 + 8 ) * 12 = 384
SP-404SX
(10*12) * 12 = 1440
Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
Thanks, that's great. Now I just hope it stores tempo information.
Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
I agree that the pattern slot should allow you to specify a local tempo or use global tempo. Just like the sample slots do.
Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
If you've ever altered the tempo on a sample of the 404 you have probably noticed that it sounds quite terrible and wobbly if the sample is stretched beyond +/-3 bpm from the native. I think this is a result of the architecture scheme. It is probably a single micro controller without any CO-DSP's. If they were to add a DSP to the architecture they would double the development cost and significantly increase the power consumption.
It is interesting to note that the MPC-500 has time stretch capability and operates on 6AA for 4.5 hrs.

Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
Wait, this was about sample tempo the whole time? I was thinking of the tempo of patterns.

but is it real time? thats a processing function right?
because it wouldn't draw much power if every effect was a proccessing effect ( you have to wait for it to be applied before you hear it) however if you added that in addition to the real time it would affect the power consumption alot
Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
jeez-us. why couldn't they change the industrial design. the 303 looked so nice and everything since that looks so effing cheese ball. I DON'T need my sampler to be ribbed for her pleasure!!!!!!!!!!!!!
on the stuff they actually did change i agree with everyone else, mostly shit that should have been there in the first place and not enough to replace my current 404....they dropped the ball for sure. i mean how many of us would have be foaming at the mouth to go out and buy something that was like the 404+505 crammed into a body that looked like a 303 with some extra pads....

Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
well this just looks like another 404 for me to sandown and spray paint...personally ill get one just to get it. and two 404's whos complaining? i think its like well not quit sure but as most people would say cant beat the real thing. i just wanna play with it guitar center here i come. and oh yeah COPY
thats nice for lazy people like me. but if you think about it we gotta give some props to roland for taking consideration of us all. and for just putting another thing out that could possibly be a banger
anywho fuck the hype im fine with my 404 but i shall get one. gimme a month new job at target
Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
linear wave sampler? and what is a jingle?
Re: NEW SP404SX!!!!!
^the current 404 uses rdac for music file sampling and resampling which is why there is such noticable degredation after five or more resamples. it's also known to cut certain sounds a little. 16 bit linear is a very good thing. basicly think cd quality vs. mp3 at 320 kbps; this is not a noticable problem at initial sample but once you add effects and resample it will be quite obvious.
insert funny comment here.

Good Question. Anyone here know?
I has to be real time. It would be unacceptable if it wasn't real time.
It is also interesting to note that the MPC-500 does not have input thru.
