not like we own roland

i say if roland is putting out gear, then they should have scouts out there, just like in the bigs. keeping up in these forums, everywhere to see what people like and dont like about the products. it would seem the most legit way to get feedback. entonces, im slightly dissapointed

yea i would think they have listened since they added pattern copy

but no one takes into account that there are MASSIVE limitations when designing something thats supposed to be portable and battery powered. engineering problems will steer the direction of the final product regardless of how much input they take into account.

a battery powered box that does everything will probably never exist with digital circuits, theres just too many things to take into account

if they did get a better effects processor in there it would almost certainly mean more battery drain.

^ So why not using an akku like mostly every portable tech device in this century?!

But seriously you're right about cost aspect. It's a 2009 SP404... nothing more... I mean how could Roland sell 404's if there are no more 1GB CF cards on the market...Of course the quick access via the function button seems to be nice but it brings nothing new, that's the point... and somehow this function pad reminds of the mpc mode button...
I guess soundimprovemt only means they changed the parameters a bit. I mean the 555 didn't sounded that different than the 404, too.

Things I really like are the fluent FX change, the editor for the pc and the PAUSE button... Make the world stops turning I guess.

probably because they only wanted to alter the schematic not rewrite it from scratch. also, if they went with a decent sized laptop equivelent battery the thing would be a lot bigger and after all:
It's a 2009 SP404... nothing more...

its just an update to make sure that people who buy it now aren't going to get frustrated with annoying work arounds and to keep the product alive for years to come

but yall need to quit whining and get ya self a 555. you wont regret it

I hate that they made vinyl sim an mfx now. I use it on everything and like it right there. Also I prefer compact flash to sd. Here's hoping for a discounted regular 404.

Yo Schoko, don't you got a friend at the German Roland headquarter/Hamburg? What is he saying bout the ol 404's and the release date of the SX?

i'll bet the pitch is the same :(

i'll be keeping my og 404... i would buy it, however, if they kept the cf format(mpcs read em too) got soft pads and balanced i/o (and it would be cool if it was smaller :D

but that's not gonna happen

i sold my sp-404.
maybe i'm a profane but i didn't like the pads, the midi, the quantizing and the sound.
surely this feature, copy patterns, is useful.
but i see no pitch, serious pitch. and i live for it.
no pitch, no party.
peace.
ps
off topic
sp-555 heads, got this machine -the sp-555- a pitch function?

^ Nope...

The SX runs 4hours on alkaline batteries (450mA) / the old 404=6h (300mA)

One thing I don't understand is why they removed the internal memory?
I always used A+B to transfer samples between different cards (without a computer...) :|

the pattern copy stuff would have made me push my 404 a lot more.. its got stuff on it that makes me want to sell my 404 and get the new one to give it a second chance... its weird i looked at the pics and watched the video and the first thing i thought was they changed the pads... they look more square on the corners than mine look.. they do look the same but sharper or something.. then watching the guy play in the video makes them look more sensitive to me... i am crazy though so i donno... none of you guys have said anything about the pads so its prolly just me...

edit. i didnt even notice the computer editing stuff when i looked the first time.. thats rad too as long as it works right.. pattern copy to a pad? or just pattern copy to make more patterns?

What does "Auto Trig Level" under the 4 pad mean?

Tap tempo is now a pause button too, that's new.

so i was looking at the pad banks and something looked weird.. i was trying to figure out the function button and i realized what someone stated earlier... they took out the internal memory and the old f/j is the new function... what this made me REALLY wonder is......................

how long till i can "haxor" my old 404 into functioning like a new 404?
its the same hardware and more than likely the same internals.. ill buy the new faceplace and pay a reasonable sum for a new os install but i dont think ill buy the same unit twice with those features.. im betting its going to be more expensive too..

also judging by the video the new gear is more geared towards djs/techno heads? vinyl sim dropping off the top and being replaced by the looper... and pitch with voice trans.. ive never once used either of those on anything (aside from trying them out to see what they do)... do djs? do more djs use samplers in their sets than i have noticed? it would be cool to set the effects that you use the most to those pad slots and have the others on just the one mfx pad... like someone else said it sucks they took the vsim off the top..
