Whats poppin guys?

I have my 404 set up to be triggered by a M-Audio Axiom 25 keyboard (25 keys/8 drum pads) via MIDI. I have got it set up and working no issues on MIDI Ch. 1 & 2, but I don't know where A#1, B2 and such is, or how to figure out how to get the pads layed out. Can I some how set it to lay bank A-Pads 1-12 accross the first 12 keys L-R? Then Bank B on the next twelve...and so on? Then for Bank C just shift up an octave and keep going? also....What about the Drum Pads?

Any help is greatly appreciated, I am finaaly just starting to grasp all the basics of MIDI... But I cant figure this out. Thanks.

You can't change what notes the 404 responds to,

but you can change what notes the pads on the axiom send.. read the manual it will tell you how.

with the keyboard part, if you want to, you can transpose the whole thing so that C is no longer C, etc.. again, check the manual

Get the M-Audio "Enigma" editor... /google

Pretty easy to set up the keys and pads once you got into it.

Thanks guys. I have the Enigma editor...I am pretty framilar with it. and I have read the manual a few times. It's still pretty confusing. Can some one break down Transposing, and how I would apply it with my issue? Thanks.

Hi
While I don't have an Axiom, I would think you can only transpose its keys in whole octaves, but I would expect the pads could have any midi note assigned to each of them?
Do you have the 404 manual with the list of midi notes in it? Don't forget the first note is assigned to the Ext Input pad, not a sample.

With midi note names, there are different standards in use. The difference is in the starting number for the notes in the first octave. Some start on 0 (eg B0 first octave B, B1 second octave B etc) and some start with 1 (eg B1 first octave, B2 second etc). This is easy to fix by transposing up or down an octave for the keyboard, but needs a little experimenting where pads can have individual, fixed notes assigned.

Jim

shits me that the SP404's pads start at B3...what about the octave before it?!

obviously there's workarounds but still....

I'm bumping this because i'm trying to get my SP to play through the Axiom's drum pads rather than the keys. I can't figure it out on enigma or the manual. Halp?

What does that mean "pads to the right notes"? I still can't find anything in the manual. All I want to do is play the sp through the drum pads on the axiom. Has anyone done this before? If so, How?

there is a section in the manual that will tell you how to set what the pads do. there IS a section in the manual that tells you this.

you need to set what notes the pads send, so that they send notes corresponding to notes that the SP-404 has its samples allocated to.\

I used to have an axiom25 and an sp-404, and it worked great.

i got a question, what is the benefit of playing thew 404 through another midi device. like why wouldnt you just play the 404 pads instead of the axiom pads. i got a axiom 25 and a sp555 and im wondering what would i do with this information.

Because the pads on the 404 are not velocity sensitive, but it can recieve velocity sensitive signals via MIDI. If you connect something like an Axiom25 to the Sp555 you would be able to play the samples in your 555 at different velocitys...

^ i think the 555 pads are velocity sensitive

ohhhhh!!!
thats pretty cool. the 555 only has like 3 levels of velocity. kinda gay. ive never done anything with velocity sensitive pads before, i usually turn it off in fruity loops, now im wondering how cool it be to play with velocity as well.
what are some cool things people are doing with veolcity sensitivity, besides programming drums, anything with samples?
