dead card question?

Hey all,

So after however long with the SP-404, I finally got a card that seems dead despite being new. When I put it into the 404 and turn it on, NOTHING happens. No lights, nothing. Even when I put the new card in and hold down Cancel & Remain to begin formatting it, still nothing happens.

All my other cards work fine (and the 404 turns on fine even without a card) so I am assuming it is just this new card.

First: anyone else had this experience?

Second: do you know of a way I can get this card to work? I don't have a card reader, but I thought of maybe trying to format it first with the MPC1000 and then seeing if I can re-format it with the 404.

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. Kinda scary to just have the 404 go dead like that.

so here's the update: Verbatim CF 1gig cards do not work on the 404.

the mpc was able to format it, but the 404 would still not accept the card.

be warned about verbatim cards!

Thomann CF cards don't work either on the SP-404 (at least the 1GB ones). It is a common problem on this sampler, I think it's all about the speed of the card, I can't manage to make an 80x card work on my 404, whilst a 24x one works perfectly.

yeah, i fink the Ultra II's that i (eventually) picked up are 60x. i will just be tracking down Ultra II's from this point forward.

cuz yeah - i DID nearly shit myself when the 404 wouldn't turn on. lol.
