404 pads are down

Post by wax inspektor »

My pads 1, 5 and 9 are shitty as fuck... I mean they still work, but they hardly come up after pressing. They only work if I push them on the right side...

Is it possible to change single pads, like on a mpc?
Anyone ever did stuff like this?

you'll have to pop it open and have a look.. because theyre simply on/off contacts, I'd say its a good bet that cleaning the contacts underneath the pads will have them working like new again..

but maybe you have worn out the actual depressing-rubber bit of the pad that is meant to pop back up or something... in which case.. Hmm I'm not sure. You'd have to find a SP-404 main button pad from somewhere

Take the screws of all 4 corners and check to see if there's something underneath the pads. Hope it works out, man.

There's a ton of people on the interwebs who bitch about their 404 pads being "hard to press on"

:( It's like back in the SNES days... The buttons are worn out!!! Too bad I don't have a cam by my side. The rubber mat (?) is shredded several times around the pads. If you could see how the main button pad works, you would be worried bout your 404 too... thrust me... this shit isn't build for decades... it's build like a cheap remote control... man...

...and no it wasn't not just those 4 screws on the top...

I wonder if Roland might sell single rubber mats?!

It's kinda embarassing, that the pads were down even before I made a mixtape or sth.... Maybe I should quit on this shit...

New pads are about 29,80€... Takes them 3 weeks, but that's alright. I mean they still play the sounds, but they just feel real bad.

It's a bit sad that I've to change them... Took me nearly 4 years to get them nearly as soft as the 555 ones.

my pad 11 is very broken, i have to slam it hard to work so i dont bother,

my control 1 knob is loose and makes a click sound when i turn it, i think its from when i let a 5 year old bang on it for a bit, now im going to take more care of my 404, but yea it wont last forever, maybe a couple years if you use it everyday, maybe longer if you take extra special care. my sp 505 broke down eventually but i used it ALOT.
