What's the point of sounding like someone else?

Recognizing a similarity isn't the same as copy cats actively trying to emulate someone else's sound though.

I think many people if not all people on these forums are definitely in search of their own style, or have already found it. Meaning in most cases, favorite producers aside that may or may not inspire them directly, people will have their own musical preference. Preference when it comes to making music and what it should sound like.

I hardly think it's a crime to find out about a certain similarity between different or similar kinds of music when it's never been done on purpose.

Also.. don't underestimate how a tune on a radio can 'inspire' you subconsciously to later on use or 'discover' the same catchy melody in one of your own songs. To be honest though, that's part of someone's own identity as well.

Some people simply can't seem to become original, but that's actually a good thing for those who are.
