Oh Bliv wrote:Stanley Cowell is great. He released a lot of solo piano sampled by a lot of cats. I've got a couple of joints but the one to check is Illusion Suite on ECM if i can recall. He did a lot of stuff on Strata East worth checking out too.

i'm always keepin an eye out for stanley on the keys on any album, i still have yet to find a solo album by him though

I grabbed this piano record (i cant think of the name of the artist right now, im at work) and I started reading the back of it... the dude said some crazy thing like 'jazz musicians can only do so much, because they don't have the training that classical musicians do.' I thought it was a joke, but as I read on... the guy was FOR REAL. I was like
and then I thought.... "Oh shit... Im gonna sample the hell outta your snobby ass! Ima play you backwards bitch!"

every time I see that record it brings me joy .

i saw last night a great film "the conversation"(1974) by F.F. Coppola, try to find this o.s.t., blues/jazz only with piano, very interesting, maybe the author is David Shire, not very sure.

i found this little part here

if you can try to see also the film, very interesting.

the name of that goofy record is "Pianist Extraordinary" by Don Shirley. The guy who wrote the back made Don sound like such an ass. It features delightful little quotes such as, "Most jazz artists must accept their lot because of their night-club environment and the consequent emphasis on the dollar." or "Most people in jazz must become entertainers." opposed to Don himself "an artist."

it was too much for me to handle.
