hello
did my first ever electronic gig recently after many years fucking around with laptop music etc
its up on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxY8t4HUtkk
we are called Wires of Love.. i'm the ugly fat one :(

I used a roland sp555 for probably 75% of the gig...and also used bits and pieces from Microkorg, korg electribe, roland sh201, dr202, & dsi mopho.

i used the sp555 for all of the beats, drum sounds, and vocals samples, and also used it for lots of synth lines, bass etc too.
i am seriously in love with the machine.
thanks to everyone on here who helped me with a few questions when i first bought it.

for the record..i seem to use mine in different way to most sp & sampler users
i rendered down all my own tracks into seperate loops...and strung them together easily as you see in the vid above

it was a lot of late night work making all of those samples proper loops....i thank the mac program Peak and also Soundtrack Loop Facility, a program i already had...default on macs i think....that has made my life a lot easier.

i wanted to post this video here because i haven't seen many vids of people using them for loops as i do...as opposed to the more common "one hit" samples

feedback welcome/needed

cheers

nice job man!

i really like the song that starts at the 5 minute mark

did you trigger loops by hand or setup a pattern for each so they could cue on time automatically?
also...

did you import the samples so you could get past 15 second loops?

more technical explanations please!
more vids too.
theres not enough sp 555 vids out there

cheers for the feedback lads

@hurlingdervish
i triggered all the loops manually by hand. i didn't even know i could do it automatically
by hand is better because you'll never play the same track in the same way more than once

imported all the samples from my mac g5 computer
i have never recorded any samples..with the SP555

more vids: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bF8z4ynVXUc
and one of me just jamming with the sp555 and korg electribe ea1

lol @ 15secong samples

some of mine are 2 second samples....some go on for over a minute
and they play perfectly together...unlike a shitty mpc

haha ive seen this before on my quest for 555 vids

yea no doubt by hand is the way to go...

but the pattern sequencer can be useful

i havent done any importing by the way of card, i usually just record through USB
how do you name the tracks before importing? like song a-1 song a-2 etc

Really nice, this is a set that deserves repeated listens.

Any chance you'll be posting that as audio anywhere?

fuck thanks a million lads

i also noticed that there are sweet fuck all sp555 vids around.
when i was buying it i really wanted to see a vid of someone using it for loops but could never find one

@ hurlingdervish....i call them whatever...i don't think it matters...just as long as they are no more than 16bit aiff or wav samples its all good.
i don't import full songs at all. its more like SongAweirdbeat.wav and songAmoustacheriff.wav etc etc

@ fauna...táim an fear ó sean tíre sea!!
(i'm indeed irish...and live in ireland....god's hiding place)

@cartesia
i play in wires of love and also solo as Laserface
and i LOVE my electribe ea1
its the perfect little synth for me...and i have just built a wooden box to hold it upright for me...copied the idea from some guy on youtube

@lindsay
thanks..i'm really happy you like it
the full gig can be heard here: www.myspace.com/wiresoflove
BUT it was recorded through a clean feed so you can't hear the crowd
also..the youtube clips are a shortened version of what we did on the night. we actually played for 1 hr.

i have it in full on dvd..i will post it on youtube at somestage. there are much better shots of me using the sp toward the end.

i have another gig in cork city ireland this saturday if anyone wants to come? :)
