Fruity Loops

I know its gets alot of bad press, but....

does anyone use fruity loops?

My friend gave me a copy so I can have something to make beats on when Im away from my sp, which I will be the next week..

so just wonderinf if anyone has any experience using it, and if they have any tips....

it would be good to get some advice on it, because as far as prodution goes, sp 303 is all I know...

thats how i got started.

it can teach you ALOT about rhythm. if you know how to program a rhythm it can be easier to play it out because you know where the hits go.

i still go back to it to quickly make a 4 bar drum loop that i can dump somewhere else like my sp or kp3, which is great because all i need is a demo with the export wave...no need to save

but definitely mess with the 3Xosc its got a really beefy sound, more so than most soft synths

the problems that people run into FL are either because they use too many presets (don't worry about that now) or they get to the very limits of the program and some (very few) things become complicated

load up some breaks into the slicer and youll see that theres lots of fun to be had.

i wrote a paper for school on how to make beats with FL because its fairly easy to learn i could see if i could dig that up...

I agree with Hurling Dervish 100%, I started making beats with FL studio and find it to be a great program but it's best to kept your sampling simple and smooth and take advantage of some quality mixing within the mixer. This will help you greatly with just setting up your samples in FLhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y5rAdi-VWI, once you introduce a sample you like and chop it in the slicer you can make a drum pattern and use the drum roll to arrange the sample chops with your beat. I would also like to add that all of warbeats FL tutorials on youtube are quality, so enjoy all those too.

Thye must've upgraded the plugins.... the 3xosc definitely was NOT beefy back then

maybe, but it has some of the best standard wave forms around now

on par with NI's massive

i find the 3xosc to be horrible sounding. i also don't rate massive that much as it's too digital sounding for my liking. i like the rest of the NI synths though but that's a different story.

some people call flstudio limited but really it's superior to the majority of the mid-range hardware (think MPC price) on the market. the sequencer is very simple to get a hang of. the piano roll is brilliant. it's just an easy program.

the reason it has gotten so much slack is the same reason why people hold the mpc, asr, sp1200 in such high regard. flstudio is the most popular music program on the market (purchased) even more popular than pro tools. that is fact. it is also probably the most pirated. it's relatively cheap and easy to get a hold of and because of that a lot of people grab it, make a couple of crap songs, upload them and then the bad name for flstudio grows.



i personally find the included FX and synths to be pretty light (some people rave about sytrus but i don't see the big deal), but that doesn't matter because there are so many quality freeware VSTs available out there.

Thanks for the heads up on the war beats tutorial euclid, they are helping alot...

am i right in saying you used to use an mpc 60, im sure i read that in a post somewhere awhile ago....what did you make of it? still use it?

I used to have a mpc 60, I liked it but nothing has been as fun to use as my SP.

Okay so I sat down and had my 1st real go at making a beat in fl....i actually found it quite easy after spending a day at colledge watching those warbeat tutorials.....
I think its a fun programme and Im definatly going to add it to my repitoire...only hang ups I have is that it feels almost too easy, like it makes the beat for you or something, I dunno...

the thing about FL is that its easy to get in the door, and sequence simple things, but as you progress you'll find that to get it to a really high quality its a lot less simple.

while sequencing is easy in FL resampling is a foooking bitch and a half compared to the SP's

pros...cons....

yeah i think thats the main drawback with FL...

it was never designed with audio editing/recording/resampling in mind... they've since added such things, but its not as well integrated

I've used FL off and on for 5 or 6 years now. Very capable software. There are lots of tutorials out there. I still use it on occasion but it's mostly the 404 and Reason 4 with Reaper doing all the recording.
