why cant i sync my 606

i want sync my 606 so i can midi it out with fl studio and sonar...since the 606 has only 4 tracks i rather use a program to record...but i cant figure out how to midi it out...i have a external sound card hooked up... i kno it works cuz i use it every day...what settings do u need to use///i used slave, remote and int...no luck

Make sure you have the 'transmit midi clock' turned on in the computer software, or there's nothing for the 606 to sync to...

Also, make sure it's Midi Clock and not SMTP or summat, as Roland gear only sends/receives Midi Clock.

evreything good on midi clock it will sync kinda...if i press record on the sp it will record on the program and u can hear the pattern i play but if i switch the pattern the track i laid down will be erased... very kinda

Do you wish to play a part on the computer and a part on the 606 at the same time (sync), or do you wish to capture a pattern from the computer as a sync'ed sample? I'm confused as you mention 'recording'..

i want to make a track on the sp and record the track to the computer...like how people track beats to protools

Ah, ok. I wouldn't even bother syncing it if you are tracking. You simply need to get the sound from the 606 into the DAW. Lining up tracks in a DAW is child's play. You could even record the audio into an editor such as Audacity and chop it up, then sequence the parts in the DAW. Many ways to skin a cat. Clock sync is really only necessary if you are working live or recording things at some strange tempo, like 123.45678bpm or the like.

You say you have a soundcard yes? Then it's plain sailing!

Step 1: Set your soundcard as the recording source for your computer (go to control panel, on PC).

Step 2: Run the stereo output from the 606 into your soundcard.

Step 3: Get your software set to record - Audacity is very easy if you have trouble with sonar (I haven't tried recording audio in sonar yet).

Step 4: Hit record on the computer and then hit 'play' on the 606.

Step 5: Trim the recording up on the computer. Save it.

Step 6: Set your DAW to the same Tempo as the 606 and import your newly-recorded tracks.

Step 7: Begin arranging!

As the output on the 606 is 1/4", you will need to get an RCA to 1/4" cable, if your soundcard uses RCA inputs..
