Wassup fam :D , Can someone explian the difference between recording on a tapedeck than recording on CD. I heard people say tape decks give better sound.

I just want to get some facts. If anyone can give me some info that would be great.

its about the clipping

if you go over the DB limit with digital recording it sounds shit because the squares off the peaks

but with tape it rounds off the peaks

also there's the tape hiss and occasional wobbly sound

just depends if you want to sound clean or dirty.

take the veil is a great song.

VS is bs :P
Word, it's all in the clipping. I don't have much experience with CD recorders, but I use a 4-track to record my tracks.

for home recording i would suggest to go digital because it flat out sounds better.

recording to cassette sounds awful and it simply isn't worth purchasing some quality analog tape recorder which will be barely touching the standard of your average DAW/soundcard combo in terms of audio quality.

the only reason to record to tape nowadays is for something like drums and getting that natural distortion by recording the signal hot. like has been stated in this thread when you distort in the digital realm you get a fucked up horrible noise but if you record to tape and distort slightly you get a real nice sound that is very desirable in certain types of music.

tape can sound real good sometimes. I record some of my beats onto tape. Sometimes it doesnt sound so great though, then its digital all the way.

Thanks for the info fellas. I own a Roland vs 880 but I came across a good tape deck at a Salvation Army. I had heard a little about them, I wanted to mess around with it and at 10 bucks I cloudn't let the offer pass.
