I've got alot of gear ready to be sold - with the money I wanna get the sp-606.

Pros, Cons?

if you've used or have one - what do you think about the instrument?

Just bought it, and i love it.

If you love to work your ways around the limitations of your hardware equipment, then this is a great machine. Things that might annoy you is the limited polyphony and sequencer, but excellent resampling and clipboard features makes it a breeze.

the fx are easy to tweak, some sound ok, some sound great, and you got two of them.

the best is the function key, gives you almost instant access to all features with func+pad shortcuts.

in my opinion, the sp-606 is almost an sp-303+ mc-303 in one. If you used one or both of these in the past, you will feel at home.

I own, and rocking one. The sound is more pro than the SP-303 IMO, but just as grimey (I record everything on Long grade for that grittiness). The 8 polyphony limitation can be worked around with mute groups and resampling. You can sample via USB, digital, or analog.

The Chop function on this is automatic and has no option to adjust the points like on the 505, but its great for chopping drum samples though. However you can manually chop samples on your own, if you don't mind putting in the effort.

Its got velocity sensitive pads, which, can be adjusted to be real sensitive to finger taps, or to be near-numblike that you gotta pound on the pads to hear a sound, or you can max them out to trigger samples at full level.

To me its a dope machine  that I feel comfortable with for the music I do, which is ''Boom Bap, Diggin' in the Crates type of Hip Hop''.

555 should not be overlooked if your going after a new sampler

quickest resampling of all the sp's=loop capture

in addition to marking samples you can use the measure lengths on the loop capture

so you cant use 2 fx at once..whatever, you can overdub all your loops into infinity which will create unique textures.

i appreciate all of the advice! i've really wanted the 555 - i'm a guitarist first, so that machine appealed to me alot more -BUT i really want a machine that can become the "brain" of the setup & with the 4trk midi sequencer & price tag. the 606 is it.

plus... there's a cat getting rid of one of the forums now - i just messaged him, so hopefully that works out.

They're too different to really compare them. The screen on the SP-606, mastering capabilities and Song mode make it a bit more of an 'all-in-one' solution. Personally I loved the SP-606 a whole lot more than the 555. I've owned both, but because I needed a screen, I never really gave my SP-555 the time it deserved.

I'm thinking most SP-404 people won't have any issues using the 555.

DONT THINK THE 606 CAN SEQ EXT GEAR VIA MIDI, IT DOES NOT!!! I was soooo dissapointed when I learned this, but I still love my 606. Remember, IT'S NOT AN MPC.

What do you mean? It CAN do that. I'm sure you know midi doesn't transfer sounds, you'll have to hook up audio outputs to inputs as well.

I have used Ext Seq lots of times with the P606 software and also my MicroKorg. Both worked fine.

What I mean is, say you have a synth, and you want to record a midi sequence from a keyboard ( like you would an mpc). You can't do that with the 606. I cant record midi sequences for other midi gear, the sequencer is for the internal sounds only.
