I have my main vocal mic going through the sampler into a DI and I often get feedback that my vocal is always thin and tinny. Does anyone know what the pre-amp is like inside of this thing? Or what the best settings are for a standard dynamic Mic (no phantom)
Seems everyone always notices. No effects have been applied.

you need to do one of a couple of things
1. if you are just recording vocals into the machine step away from the speakers or use headphones
2. if you are recording into a program make sure the monitor is turned off on the audio track
2.a. press and hold cancel and line in then turn the ctrl 3 knob so the LED reads INP.
that will separate the audio from the pads and stop it from getting feedback

hmm .. its not when I'm recording. I also know how to bypass using the final step you mentioned.. I'm talking bout the quality of the pre-amp. As in - the raw sound is thin when going direct into the PA. I'm just wondering if this is just my one or if other people have the same problem. It could be a cheap pre amp in there.. I have no idea.

Its obviously not the best mic pre in the world but it nots bad. It sounds better than something like a behringer. I don't know what mic your using but that could be the trouble. Also, I'm curious as to why you are running a DI for the mic ?

a thin sounding microphone is often the result of a bad xlr-cable.
always get a second, and if it still sounds bad, third cable to test your setup, before even starting to blame the hardware.
if it still sounds thin, check the microphone. its more likely to get damaged then your 505, so borrow one from a friend.
if the problem still occurs, then recheck your own cable, and eventually microphone on someone elses recordingequipmet, ruling out your pre-amp.

yeah thats what im thinking could be the problem. i dont know the details of your situation but i dont think you need the DI box
