yo Sp headz, i've noticed that if i sample a piece of a song into my 404 the sample sounds like a little "muddy" and if i import the sample from pc with the card into my 404 the sample sound more "clean" (i can hear better the high freq)... it' not a problem about distorison or disturb only the sample seems to be a little muddy when i rec into my sp... do you ever notice that? i've supposed that was a problem with the rca cable or my wack mixer (ESO Hip Mk2).

i think it's about the sp-404 converters and the pc converters (don't know if pc got some, but..). anyway any sampler got its own colour made by its own converters, the pc tends to flat any sound. it's the same thing for all samplers.
cheers

if ur copying a sound in on the compact flash from computer,
it will be exactly the same, because its all digital all the way thru.

If u record sound in through the inputs on the SP, it goes analogue for at least a while, and given that the SP is only a relatively cheap thing, you're not gonna get 100% perfect quality in the analogue parts of the input or the A/D converters..

This dirtyness is part of the character of samplers!

..And it's another reason why I like to record samples in thru audio rather than just copy the files over by storage device.
