Open Challenge #1

Post by cartesia »

Welcome to Open Challenge! (tm)

The task -
Use all your powers, all your hijacked alien technology, all your ancient wisdom, to make some crazy beats! :)

The topic is:"Space Time Discontinuity"
Here's a few samples which you might like to use.. Dont feel you need to only use these though.. In fact don't feel you need to use these at all if you dont want to.. The break is provided just in case for some reason you lost all your drum samples in a house fire or customs seized them or something:

science jibberish:
http://www.box.net/shared/mj6zeesol5
break:
http://www.box.net/shared/54delucz5r

The winner will be the person who consumes the largest amount of drugs while producing their entry...

We might also have a vote for a 'people's choice' award or something.

You have exactly 2 weeks from the time this post was made!

Cool. I'm in!

So I guess we should follow the theme 'Space & Science'?

This screams for a futuristic electro kind of beat, but I'm going for something different.

Not sure how long I will take though.

By the way, that break.. from which song is it?

^ it's an awesome machine man! the MIDI specs are top notch, real-time MIDI control over all 16 channels, really nice Pattern system (very similar to QY-70 actually, the guts of these two Yamaha boxes are pretty much the same)

i'll probably film me playing it for this battle, and submit the live audio feed as an mp3

Phil Collins - The man with the horn.. it's right at the beginning of the record on the 45 i have, just as a kinda intro to the song.

think i'll control the SP via the RM1X so I can use that breakbeat in the track. plus it feels strange not using the SP in a battle

Yeah, it will be interesting for sure when people use all kinds of gear. That's a SP-forums first. :)

edit:All done!

It may have a little bit low volume, but at least mastering is good. :)

Only samples from the two audiofiles, lifted the kick, snare and crash, and the vinyl sound used in the beat from the Break file, piano and vocals from the science jibberish file.

@IIII: Yeah, I probably should, but I had no time to mess some more with it.

Good to see some more beats though, sounding great guys. I like that piano sample Oynstikker.
