Would it be wise...
... to sell my 505 for a 606?
I've become well acquainted with my 505 but I'm a bit jealous of some 606 features (synth, usb etc).
Your thoughts please...

Well, I really loved the SP-606. But there's a good chance you're not going to like some of the features that aren't on the SP-606.

Re: Would it be wise...
ellaguru would tell you to keep the 505... And he's had both
I got the 606 and I'll say that the 606's usb connection is very important, meaning that you can sample anything that plays off ur comp... and easily bounce ur song to audicity or whatever the same way. Usb is better for transferring music because there is data loss when transferring thru rca cables (from what i know).
also, 606 has 2 mfx vs. 1... which may not seem like alot but it is mann it is... Sometimes i wish there was ten of those buttons. I don't think I could get by with just having one being used to having 2.
...other than that tho....its pretty much the same box. I'll let ella tell u why the 505 is better than the 606 lol... but yea man to me its the same shit. I wouldnt expect ur beats/workflow to change much from making the switch

If being able to manually adjust chop points is very important to you, keep the 505. Otherwise the 606 is a better machine.

Yeah, I agree, but with the SP-606 I used to manually adjust practically ALL my samples after an auto-chop anyway, so it wasn't a big deal to me.
By the way, if I recall correctly the SP-606 has a higher polyphony.

I think it's 8 voice polyphony on both.

Yeah, you're right, I've checked the specs, it's 8 polyphony on both. Thought it was 12. Not that I ever ran into the limitation anyway.

The thing about the effects is huge.
What about the pads?
Any sensitivity (yet)?
Thanks

yea the pads are velocity sensitive... u can also max them out so that they are not velocity sensitive, which is what I do. Not a big fan of velocity sensitive pads

The 606 and 505 are two different machines. But you have to decipher what would make you feel comfortable to get the best workflow.
The 606 got things the 505 don't got and the 505 got things the 606 don't got. But both operate basically the same.
I went deep with both and I would say that the 606 does the job for me. I had the 505 since its first release and I made mad crazy beats with that. It was my baby. I bought the SP-606 when they began to discontinue it so I copped it for cheap brand new. As with any machine, it took time to get use to it, because I was expecting a super 505, but that wasn't the case. Anyway, now that I mastered it I feel this is the machine for me.
I suggest to keep your 505 and cop a 606. Try and compare them and the one that gets your juices flowing keep that and sell the other.

Yeah, that would be the ideal thing to do.
I probably would recommend the 606 over the 505, but there are a lot of people that like the 505 better. And even though I did make some beats on a 505, I never owned one myself.
The FX on the 606 are very good in my opinion. The SP-555 has some better FX in my opinion, but they tend to be a lot 'cleaner'. I think the 505 has a grittier sound, a bit more old school probably. For some people that matters the world, but I used to get excellent results with my 606 (even though I was basically still not thát great at making beats).

Now that you're talking about sound, I gotta say the 606 got a grimey sound to it. I record all my samples on Long grade, not just for memory space but for that dingy damp sound.

Yeah, by the way... when it comes to the synth, I thought 505 had one too??
If it doesn't, I sure heck would pick a 606 over the 505 anytime. That thing is massively useful.
