I don't own one yet, but what are creative ways to use a mixer with the SP-404? I've heard about sends and returns but cannot get my head around the concept (in theory).

yo, i think mixer is best for normailizing levels so everything is consistent going into the sp.

for send and returen shit, i think you need a multi track that has multiple outs and ins, and of course fx send and returen, it works pretty simple, record to each track then send a an audio channel to and fx and then beck into the multi track, this is awesome for mixing down because the effects wont be set in stone and you can tweak them for the mixdown, some machines only allow 1 external effect others allow more.

You can use the 404 to apply effects to the sound coming to the mixer.
Your FX send goes from the mixer to the line in of the 404.
Then you connect your 404 line out to the FX return on the mixer.
The mixer usually has some knobs to adjust FX levels.
Personally I don't see much use for this.

I don't know about any creative ways to use a mixer. If you just have a 404 you could easily do without one but if you got turntables or other gear you want to connect then it's a must have!
