Fine tuning loop edit points

I asked this over on rolandclan.info but didn't get any response. Doesn't seem to be many SP-606 users there.

On the SP-606, can the increments at which the sample Start/End points are edited be adjusted? One click of the dial moves the Start or End point by hundreds/thousands of samples, and I need to be able to fine tune the points more than that...

Use the cursor keys next to the jog wheel. Press Up or Down to zoom in and out the wave form or Left or Right. With that you can decrease the increments of samples to 16 samples being the lowest.

and if u dont like using the jog wheel u can just press dec or inc to move the cursor

if you zoom all the way in, it moves it the closest zoom all the way out it moves it further.

I must say I find the visual representation of the waveform rather essential - and well implemented by Roland, I must say. I wouldn't live without it. How do people using the sp-404 and 555 manage?

With their ears. At one time all I had was a SP-303, and I would chop the starts and ends until the sample felt right. After truncating I would observe the BPM of the sample and try to chop other samples to fit that BPM exactly. Takes time but when you got it down right the beat plays perfectly without drifting and my hands can work other gear without adjusting the 303 every few seconds to keep it on time.

I agree. It's so much easier just looking at the waveform, adjust to where the music starts or stops or has an emphasis and go by ear from there.

(obviously tightly chopped samples tend to sound too robotic and unnatural, so I usually leave some space before the sample, but at least I can see what I'm doing, lol).

I guess there's more than enough proof out there that SP users can deal with the no screen thing. Most chops sound very good to me.
