The title says it all. Don't think about what they can do, just design..

Which sp do YOU think has the best look?

I vote for the 202!

I like the 303, nice and utilitarian design. No frills, all business.

303 for sure. I dont dig the "futuristic" look of the 404.

Yeah the 202 looks dope. I like the 303 as well, but the 202 looks pretty dope sitting amongst my setup. Not that it matter or anything. haha.

Something about black + orange..... coz I really love the look of all the bright orange buttons on the shiny black 606 too.

Could be something to do with nature; in the insect world black and orange = danger.

If you look closely at the red stripe on the back of a Redback Spider you'll notice that it's actually orange..... (The Redback is a close relative of the Black Widow in the States).

With the SP's though - they ALL look good. I'd go as far as saying that I like the styling on most roland products. To some they look like toys but to me they just look straight up 'anime' style

I like the black/silver combo that roland has going on at the moment (404/555)

but I think their boxes, buttons, general shapes... are a little bit too lumpy/square - the sleek low thin MPC500/MPC1000 box looks like it goes faster :P

if i could design an interface it would be very fractal/organic looking. . rather than logically laid out in gridss/rows

that sounds interesting, yet challenging to visualize. how about throwing together a mock-up of an organic/fractal 404 in photoshop or illustrator and showing us what you had in mind?

you know if you're really into that sort of thing you should look into a career in industrial design. i'd love some more forward looking gear.

Sp 12/1200's still look the best. Theyre abit too bulky and the screens tiny, but everything about it is so stylish.

But they aren't really 'our' SP's are they, since they are not part of the Roland range..

I reckon people get all misty-eyed over old gear just becuase it's old, not becuase it's actually better looking or more functional. Take the TB-303; highly desirable, even though it needs to be 'devilfished' (modded) to make it useful in a modern studio..

haha, yeah a TB-303 fresh out the box didn't even have MIDI did it?

those devilfish mods look (sound) great, as does the x0x kit.

i personally don't dig the 404's look too much, but i really like how the SP-303 looks. I've got an MC-09 with a similar Roland dark-red vintage-style
