another good tip for monitoring is listen to your beat for a long time with headphones, if the snare starts spiking into your brain you need to fix it. keep listening till it doesnt spike your brain. you can fix it with eq and volume.

im still learning how to mix and master properly , Right now i just go cool and the listener can turn it up if they want. some of my old beats are god awful distorted as a result of trying to juice them up to much

If you rock your ipod all day its prolly best to produce on those earbuds and switch back and forth with ur monitors... Ive also been told that when u get ur monitors, its best to listen to a lot of music first so you know what ur stuff is supposed to sound like... like building a reference point for you to match

Excellent idea, but don't forget there might be some sound coloration because of what kind of sound card you're using as well. Meaning it will probably sound different on your iPod with earbuds compared to on your PC with monitors as well.

I got Alesis M1 Active 520, and they are really good...better that i tho...

I dont have good acoustics so with these monitors i can adjust balance with low/mid/high pretty good so i get quite accurate space to mix, and these monitors are flat.

I have heard lots of good things about m-audio monitors and behringers truths.

And all those who use computer to mix, get a good soundcard. If u have some game/music listening soundcard, it colors pretty bad. And if u record to casette tape in some "hifi" system, theres normally some eq preset on in this hifi system.

I use behringer studio monitor headphones too, very good...20-20khz, flat as hell...so flat that these might fool you if u forget that these are flat studio monitors, natural sound. With normal headphones, theres colorong...bass boost and so on.

It takes years to get good ear skills and get that sound u want. And its always learning..and learning...and... :D
