I know that guitar riff from somewhere though, I am almost certain this is a sample as well. Sounds very live indeed, def an excellent beat.

I disagree with Jay-z though, using an auto-tune is very nice. But just not the way T-pain uses it, but still.

im having trouble with the 2000 which might have a dead floppy drive or dead bootup disk and my xl's datawheel only decreases (like turning to the left) values of stuff so if i dial something off it cant go back on, no chopping, etc.

very, very depressing

I never really liked him either, but to me it does seem he is still very successful. Lil' Wayne might currently be more popular, but I think Jay-z probably still makes it in a top10. Not my top10, but that wouldn't include Lil' Wayne either.

with each new generation of rappers i realize how shitty the current one is, then realize the last generation was better.

lil wayne.....first single was talented (crazy fast rapping). then he just figures he doesnt need to try anymore.

i feel like rap by nature is harder to have virtuoso people to make it to the top, because the entry level for "pro" stuff is much lower than say a jazz musician or producer who spends every free second working on their craft.

whereas mc's nowadays seem to just throw something together on their lunch break. and if you practice your delivery too much, then you sound fake like lil wayne (ever hear him actually talk? ).

i bet jack karouac would have made a dope mc.

My friend was playing MF DOOM's latest album and I was very turned off when I heard him using auto tune on a track. I feel like I've been completely inundated with it. The trend seemed to start off around when kanye west redid harder, better, faster, stronger. It was cool that he did it because daft punk made the best use of auto tune i've ever heard to this day, but the recent trend has gone way overboard.

it was the original vocoder. i like vocoders though, they aren't trying to trick you into thinking the singer can sing

im pretty shure autotune is just a brand name vocoder,

it says its for pitch correction, but its really for to sound likea robot.

at first glance they seem similar but it is actually the opposite process-

vocoders- take two signals and mix them together, doesnt have to be a singer and keyboard. you can get amazing sounds from percusssion and other weird shit

autotune- is just automated pitch shifting with midi data and no actual sound on its own

i don't listen to jay-z because the tone of his voice is off, like he can't really 'sing' to the beat. ever.
