"Memory full" message when it's not

I've noticed if I leave the SP alone for a while, I sometimes get the message "Memory full" in the display when I come back. I have a 256mb card, and about 230mb are still free. What's going on?

So this is a common observation? Nothing out of the ordinary with my unit?
