Abelton live 8 help using 606 as control surface

Anyone familiar with how to use the 606 as a control surface in ableton live 8, i have it set up and ive been able to use the pads but i cant assign anything else, i had the same problem using kinetic 2, that why i made the switch. Im thinking it has to be something with the settings on the sp but im not sure. Any help would be great, im going crazy with this thing.

I am trying assign the knobs and the other buttons to different things in ableton. The pads are the only controls on the sp that ableton will recognize. When i go into midi mapping mode, i can assign the pads to play a sample but when i move the knobs or push the other buttons i should be able to assign nothing happens. I am basically just trying to use it to control effects and start and stop playback. From what i understand i should be able to do all of this. I have the sp in EXT mode and turning on note trig. gets the pads to work, but nothing else. If note trig is off nothing works. Im kinda new to this, so let me know if you need some more info thanks for the help.

I think you should check the midi settings on the sp and make sure that midi "Effect control channel" is NOT set to "off"...
