so i seen this guy on craigslist selling compact cards for cheap about 6 bucks. called him up arranged a meeting by the bart station. spent nearly $10 for the train alone (round trip). it was mad hot then boom he shows up yadda yadaa got the cards told me they cool and everything and i talked him into giving me four 1gb compact flash cards for $20.

went home eager to do some sampling, sampled some loops. i turned my 404 off just to simulate the next day scenario and BAM! my samples went skippy mcgee!! FFFUUUUUUUUCKK!!! im heeeted!

i sound like some sort of geezer when i say this but i really dont trust buying anything off the internet yet...even paypal isnt that reliable i hear. craigslist seems like you could get some awesome shit just make sure you arrange some sort of trial, if they are honest people they should let you try it out, if they dont then dont bother.

where can you get 1gb cards anyway? i called up guitar center and they were charging like $70 for that shit

Not sure why this is in production techniques but I got mine from Amazon, 5x 2 gig cards for $50...

Fake cards in what sense though? Not every brand (however cheap or expensive) really is supported. Unfortunately there's a bunch of brands that simply don't work, even though it works fine for normal storage use on a computer.

yes - just go for familiar name brand cards!

i bought a bunch of 32mg - 1 gig sized cards from eBay, the brand was "Unity Digital" - the SP reads samples on 'em, but if you try to run a sequence it shits itself. poor form.

*touch wood* so far it's ok if you're sequencing remotely (i'm using QY70), but i wouldn't want to trust these dodgy cards in a live situation

normally i say fuck brands; i'm a Home Brand kinda guy, I shop at Aldi and don't wear 'fashion' labels - but when it comes to CF cards, i gotta go with the known brands purely for reliability

I have to say though, they got plenty of good products too that are worth the discount. Just need to know what, when and where.
