Installing 750MB Zip drive in SP 808
I've heard it's possible to replace the 100MB Zip drive with a 750MB one. Anyone done it or got any advice?

Yes, it is possible. You have got an 808ex or did the upgrade (808 to 808ex
)
The zip drive must be IDE/ATAPI (any brand)
good luck

I've seen something online about 750mb being possible, but can't remember where.

It turns out that indeed there is a 750mb Zip-drive:

It's not SCSI compatible, however, but maybe this isn't a requirement?
I came across this thread, btw, where a guy recommends exchanging the internal Zip-drive for a 750mb:

Mmm, there's a bunch of things said there that I definitely don't agree with though. Like that Analog Kid more or less bashing the SP series. From what he's saying I doubt he has used anything but an MPC1k.

Re: Installing 750MB Zip drive in SP 808
i have been using a 750 zip drive in the 808 for years with no problems.
i also converted it to an a6 with a hard drive without problems, but found the 750 zip option better as your able to retain all the 808 functions, and you dont get the drive busy message as much, only thing is you can't use 100 Mb zip disks in a 750 drive.

Have you really read what he wrote there? He basically said that his 505 might have some flaws, but generally he likes it because it's so simple and easy to use and sounds good. He's not bashing the SP-series when he says "the MPC1k is a far more advanced machine" because it is.

Yeah, well you're definitely right to some extent and to each their own, but he certainly seems to suggest the SP-505 is cool, but not good enough to really make something. That I don't agree with.
I agree that the MPC1k easily is a more sophisticated machine and can do considerably more. The sp-505 still owns it when it comes to FX, work-flow and intuitiveness.
I'm not saying this to bash the MPC series either, just speaking up for the SP-505. For what it cán do.
I meant to say: "Mmm, there's a bunch of things said there that I definitely don't entirely agree with though.". Upon reading it again, he might have been more positive about it all than I thought.

Re: Installing 750MB Zip drive in SP 808
Don't get me wrong, but I feel there's a slight tendency to get a bit oversensitive here when it comes to people talking bad in the slightest way about the SP series. Got too much beating? Too much dissing about them SPs being little toy samplers? Who knows
I've come across endless machines which I liked using. I like the 404SX for its simplicity, straightforwardness and the fx, coupled with quick resampling. It has some things here and there I don't like, but I have other stuff to compensate. Nothing is perfect eh

Re: Installing 750MB Zip drive in SP 808
Hey All,
I recently bought an upgraded sp808 EX with a zip750 drive. I'm anxious to get started, but tried a 100MB zipdisk and it's not working. I noticed a posting above mentioning this issue. Just so I'm not out another $50 before I buy some more disks - can I use 250MB zipdisks in the 808ex w/ zip750 drive? Long, convoluted question, I know, but I appreciate your help!
Also, if anyone know off the top of their heads the sampling time on a zip750 disk just so I know that would be cool, too.
THANKS!!!
