Hey all, I am new here. I bought my SP-404 last year and have been having a blast just messing around. I am a drummer (since I was 8) and added the 404 as a way to add new sounds to my playing with loops, etc.

My question is: can I trigger PATTERNS via a midi controller? I can't find the midi numbers for this. Samples are easy enough, but I am writing my own loops with the 404, and want to add those to the banks on my Alesis controller.

Any one? Thanks.

Welcome on board Xris :)

Sadly, there is no way to trigger the 404's patterns via any midi controller :/

damn that sucks. i'm trying to trim down my gear quite a bit to get some more $$ to move and i was hoping that i could sell my mpc1k and just use the 404 with the machinedrum to add longer samples and that unquantized funk...

i know this is kind of the wrong forum, but anyone know if it would be possible with the 505(which i also have)?

i figured out a way to get around this, sortof
you have a drum machine controlling the samples but have the drums muted and dont play patterns on the actual 404
then your patterns will just be beats on the drum machine and the patterns will switch automatically without having to touch the 404
im not sure if its what youre looking for but it works for me haha

just use your machiendrum to sequence the 404... it's sequencer is waaay better than the 404's.

Drewzie,
Thanks bru'. I am still living in the States. Our house is packed up and I am waiting to hear from the embassy. We hope to be in Au by July. I put up Adelaide because that is where we plan on settling.

If you know of anyone who needs a drummer/ producer down that way, please let me know. I have about 20 years of playing experience- live, studio, all kinds of music. I am hoping to get hooked into the production and live playing scene once we are there.

Cheers,
XRIS
