Favourite effects?

Post by Lezlie »

What effects are your favourites?
I'm still waiting for my unit, but am particularly interested to check out the 'Feedback ripper' and 'Tumbling' effects. Are they any useful?

hey Lezlie, it's nice to hear that we gonna have one more 606er soon ;)

to be honest I've never bothered to even check those 2 FXs, but now I see they are pretty interesting ;p

here is a little preview ( at first tumbling was applied [''11] and next feedback ripper [''52] )

Plus my 2 favourite effects are Lo-Fi Processor and Vinyl Simulator ;)

tumbling can be nice for specific purposes

of course one of my favourites is vinyl comp but also tremelo, radio tuning and chromatic ps.

i'm not a big fan of the lo-fi effect... on the 404 you could sample in lo-fi and it sounded a lot better than the effect to my ears. on the 606 you dont have this same option... you have an option to sample in LONG mode tho...which also sounds nice...but not like on the 404.

i also loved isolator on the 404, but on the 606 i havent used it really yet...i dunno why

The lo-fi FX on the 606 has more parameters you can tweak though, perhaps you're using too much bits? :?

i kinda know how it works. but did you ever use a 404 or 303? its a big difference between using the lo-fi as an effect or actually sample your sounds lo-fi.

p.s. how does it have more parameters? there are only 3 knobs

Thanks for the warm welcome, elhuana, and to all for the tips :D
@ elhuana:
I'll check out your sample as soon as I get home, thanks for posting!

Interesting input regarding the lo-fi effect. I'm hoping it'll suffice for my needs! ;)

Chulukinat, you're right about the Lo-Fi in 404, but I actually cannot recall even one beat that I used Lo-Fi type sample in. For me, the kind of distortion caused by resampling a sample to lo-fi is too much. It just doesnt fit the style of hip hop I do. I know hella catz who use this, and the final effect is really cool ( DP for example ), but that's their hip hop.
"My" hip hop of course is dirty, but not in ^this way. I like to play with filter + drive, lo-fi processor and vinyl comp ( when I had 555 it had wonderful lo-fi compressor which also made some "beautiful" sounds for me).
So I guess everyone would find something that fit them best in 606, even the Lo-Fi capabilities.

i see... which machine are you using ? because also the filter/drive effect i dont find very usable in the 606 as opposed to the 404

I love to use the low pass filter, to get get that real good low end, combine that with the mastering and you can get some good dirty bass. I do wish the tape echo and delay effect would save when you resample. If anybody knows a work around that would be appreicated? I could resample using my 303 but my buddy has it right now.

I dont know what it is but it wont save the effect to it, I might have turned the effect off on some pads now that I think about it. I could be resampling to a pad that has it turned off. I will try again thanks for clearing that up, if it works on yours it should work on mine. I am sure it is something on my end.

This happened to me once on my 404. I think I had to resample in stereo for the effect to save.

I know the 555 FXs, but never used a 303. I did try a 404 out, but can't really recall any major differences between the 606 and 404 lo-fi. So.. I don't really know I guess. :)

I am sure you are right in that there are technical differences though. It's what surprised me about certain FX both the 606 and 555 have. In my humble opinion most of the 555 FX are cleaner and slightly better, but the 606 is a bit more raw.
