funny beat!
i don't know nintendo at all, never had one, for a generational gap i think (i'm old you know?), but what is your advice considering to buy one of this? i saw them everytime in shops of used things at not expensive prices
...what is the right price, how does it works (batteries, ac/dc...smartcard,cf card or what)? do you need a Korg ds-10 to run it? how to go with it with midi(is it possible)? can you make patterns/sequences?
thanx from a dummie :)

the apps you run on DS's come on special cartridges that are made for DS specifically..

you can get 'flash' cartridges (not official.. youll need to order them from asia or something) that let you put a microSD or something in them - for loading pirated games or unofficial applications that people have made.

I don't know if the new version of DS (DS i) is able to run unofficial stuff on it yet.. I have a DS Lite, and before that had an original DS.. both are fine for this stuff.

DS-10 is a commercial project, so comes on the DS cartridge.. you can buy it in a shop..

There are lots of homemade MIDI and audio applications, so if you get the card-reader type thing you can run these (and pirated games) by downloading them to your computer and copying them onto the microSD card..

If you want to send MIDI out to other hardware you'll need to make a hacked midi cable for it (get a DS cartridge, break it open, cut one end off a midi cable, solder it to parts of the cartridge)
Or buy a DSerial and solder midi connector to that..

So if you want hardwired MIDI, you will need to know your way around a soldering iron.

It can also send midi via wifi, to a computer - which you could then route to hardware using a normal midi interface.

Hmmm.. I have the DS10 and mostly made house/techno beats, and haven't even tried it with my 303 yet. I'll need to sit down and try it out today.

I used it to make some bass sounds, pretty cool but kinda limited. But I learned a lot about electronic music with that game[?].

I sold my DS Lite and R4 last year. Ds-10 is the only thing that makes wish I hadn't. It's the shiznit for making loops to sample.

hahahah... yo ds-10 is crazy for basslines... but u gotta throw on the isolator and bass boost effect to make it sound nice... im sampling it in right now and it sounds tight as hell... its too bad ds-10 only does 2 measure loops tho for each pattern

That was my biggest problem with it. How much effort could it have taken to go to 4 bars.

well it aint that bad.. i mean u could always make 2 patterns and then just add them together in song mode... but workflow would be nicer if u could go at least 4 measures per pattern.

That beat is pretty solid, considering getting the DS-10.
Was it worth the $30?
