need MIDI help on Grooveboxes

ok this get to be a longer story...well it´ll take me a bit longer to find the right english words for my Midi problem...ok here we go

I am trying to connect 2 Grooveboxes per midi together...

Midi out from the MC-909 to midi in of the MC-505 ...so far so good

909 = Master, 505=slave, have all working on internal, that means I don´t send frequencies from the 1 to the other....none the less it still changes the the sounds around.
For example: I have a synth patch on channel 4 of the 909 and a piano on the 4th channel on the 505...when the r hooked up per midi and I start the 909 and play that tune it sounds ok but the piano of the 505 are gone and I get a real screwed up distorted sound from channel 4.

I talked to Roland about that and they told me that all Grooveboxes...no matter which Company they´re made of do that...they don´t filter all the midi recourses eventhough it´s switched on internal (sounds a bit like the ESP on a Mercedes...even when it´s off, it´s still there) They gave the advice that I should get an "Event processor" ---> http://www.midisolutions.com/prodevp.htm
has anyone here evr have contact with these lil boxes yet?
Or does a midi interface do that too?...caus I plan on ...no am getting th Yamaha RS-7000 and a Quasimidi Raven Maxx Keyboard the next few days so a Interface will be needed soon anyway.

So is the purpose of linking them up to get them to start and stop in sync? or are you intending to use one to input note values into the other?

If it's only for the time code, then there should be a midi setting that allows time code to be communicated without altering any other values.

It might also be an audio-out issue. What are they playing through?

I recently bought the mc909,so look at the midi menu and make sure program change and other stuff are turned off both for midi in and out...check also if the midi thru is on,it should be off...
the mc909 is great machine ,i really love it!

yeah why are you plugging them together if youre running them both on internal mode??

Have you set the sequencer tracks to internal? or just the clock?

Look for something about midi filters/messages.

And roland lied..I dont know about their boxes, but other ones definitely *do* have the ability to choose which information is sent and which is not.

the mc909 is great machine ,i really love it!

That means the midi transmit all off and the Midi recieve..both off...nkaaaay ..gonna try that...always had the midi transmit on on

Transmit Program Change = off
Trans. Bank select= off
Trans. Active Setting = off
Trans. Patch Edit Type = Type-CC
Transmit Edit Data = off
Soft Through = off <- had that off cause of the 909 Editor per Midi

Remote Keyb. switch = off
Device ID = 17 <- my 505 has the same ID (dunno if that´s ok)
Recieve Proram Change = off
Recieve bank Select = off
Recieve Exclusive = off

but it still sounds very very didsturbeb on the 505...where there´s supposed to be a piano tune ...it sounds more like a clarinet where the reed is broken

The internal mode means that each groovebox keeps it´s own sounds...like using two instruments instead of mixing them together like it sounds like at the moment...I just want to MIDI clock them...which means when I press Play on the 909(Master) the 505(Slave) just starts with it at exactly the bpm on which I want which i set on the 909

Good laughs and reminded me a lot of the nice uhhhhm 'translation' Roland gave with my MC505 LCD replacement pack. The clues were useless and if it weren't for the pictures I wouldn't have ever known what to do hahaha!

If you did all that stuff to the 909 and you feel that should cover it, I'd look on the 505 settings and see if you can specify it to receive only midi clock data, or time code... something along those lines. Might find it with a quick reference to the midi section of the manual.

I read the manual about Device ID on the mc909 and i got a little confused!
maybe you should change the ID of the 505...it must be a 505 setting like Count Sierackula said above....
