Questions concerning EXTERNAL MIC

hello again. still getting used to my new 404, got some questions:

first of all, is it normal for the volume to be considerably low when i plug in my shure sm58 microphone into the mic jack and crank the mic level as high as it can go?

and also is it possible to add effects to vocals in real time through the 404 without affecting any of the samples with the effect? say, for example, i've got a beat going with a pattern and a few samples looping on top of each other and i started singing over it and wanted delay on the vocals but not on any of the samples... is this possible?

would it be too much to ask how i add effects to vocals but no sample pads? nothing i try is working. and i can't find anything on it in the manual.

im not 100% sure about this, but try recording your voice, and then resample it with the effects you want. i haven't recorded any vocals on my 303 but im pretty sure this is the way to go.

How are you applying the FX to your samples? are you pressing remain and then hitting the effect button ? Anyhow, hold the remain button and go thru your banks and ne pads that are lit will take fx when you trigger them. After you do this make the EXT OUT is the last pad you hit b4 you activate your fx. That should do it. about the Mic level thing....im not sure. Never recorded with a mic into it.

Try hitting the ext source button then press the start/end/level button on top right and try adjusting the level there as well.

to f.ex. put delay on your live mic just press both the ext and the mic button at the same time to turn them on, then choose your effect. if the effect would effect a sample to just hold remain and press that pad so it is not lit anymore..

still having trouble with mic volume. even when i have the level controlled by ctrl knob 3 maxed out and the mic level knob maxed out, i still have to turn the sp404's volume all the way up and bring the volume for any samples i'm playing at the time way down in order to hear my voice. it's that quiet. oh well. it works that way, just kind of a pain.

Maybe you just need a new mic or a new 1/4inch adapter if you're using one. If you have a mixer your boost the signal through that or a mic pre would definitely cure that. Otherwise call Roland cause that's not supposed to happen.
