I'm finishing a project with someone and then I'm going to stop making music so I won't be around but I wanted to say I really enjoyed all the folks on this forum.

ive read a post by you where you said you only make music casually so its surprising you would make a decision to quit making it all together.. its a bummer to me and we have hardly crossed paths/talked at all.. if i could make one suggestion to you that i would stress in all seriousness.. dont sell off your gear just yet.. maybe sell off the stuff you dont use as much or dont mean as much to you or whatever but keep your fav piece or pieces.. keep your 303.. you already own it and have put a lot of love into it.. if you sell it now you may be crossing some road or some bridge in your life but you may want to come back to that path some day.. put it in a box and put it under your bed.. and forget about it.. when you find it again on accident shrug your sholders and sell it.. when you drag it out from under your bed in a month or two and have that rekindled love for boom and bap thank me for it..
ive sold and rebought stuff too many times.. i hang onto stuff till im sure now..
see ya oakland

I'm just not that happy with my music anymore. I never developed a unique style but instead made a lot of random beats that really aren't cohesive in anyway so as to be viable. I've been teaching a friend to make beats in Berkeley so I'll let him use my gear since he's just getting started. I'm going to put together a beat tape of my music from past and present with a few outtakes I never posted and put it in the music section in about a week.
Hey man dont give up!
Everyone has times when they doubt themselves.. feel directionless or like they just dont have the 'gift'.
The fact is.. Once you reach a certain point. .music becomes hard work if you want to continue!
I hope that you stay on. . A unique style takes a long time to develop.. I've been at producing for almost 5 years now, and I don't think I've ever even finished a song, let alone brought something creative to the world..
Sometimes I feel like I'm beating a dead horse, but I keep beating it. .
I believe everyone has the 'gift' or that special musical 'soul' or whatever you call it.. It's just a matter of finding a way of translating it from mind to music.. I'm still struggling with this.. but I keep trying new ways of working, keep practicing. . and just now I think things are starting to be revealed.
One thing I like to do when I get down about music, is to delete my entire music collection, then have a rule that I can only listen to music that I've never heard of before.

Let me ask you this ! would you rather be blind or deaf ?? if your answer is the latter then you've made the right decision !
you'll be back some day as you have the same disease that we all share on the forum called (MUSIC)
PS: Thanks for turning me onto Cecil Mcgee and in turn Pharoah Sanders.

yeah man, i know what its like to lose desire to make music. I wanted to finish my next beat tape months ago, but just cant get in the spirit most the time. Shit changes though, so like timmy say- dont get rid of that SP. And even if you quit music for a little while or forever, hope you still stop by the forums sometimes.
I look foward to hearing that beat tape your putting together. hope it aint the last

fuck that man, I have the same moments where I'm like eh-why the fuck am I even wasting my time doing this...it doesn't end up anywhere, nothing comes from it, blah blah blah...but then I'm like, what's going to change if I stop? I'll be on PS3 more, wasting my time there, at least with making beats you've got an outlet for creativity and something to show for that extra time, shit, I haven't posted beats in a minute because I haven't really been making any, not feeling it at the moment...I've also dwindled my gear down to the bare essentials (for me) because if I don't make music that's not going to stop EVERYONE else from making beats, good or bad, and then I'll end up being just a regular dork
try working with an artist, or writing to your own stuff, whenever I worked with Dru we'd record a song and I'd remember why I made beats in the first place, I'd get drunk and randomly hear a song I recorded of Dru and be like "fuck yes, we recorded that shit off a 12 pack of pabst in my bedroom and it sounds 100% dope as fuck!"
whatever you decide, best to you
