Yeah I tried that 3rd knob trick, but it still is quite quiet, a friend of mine has offered me his old mixer it only works on one side, would it still work?

Would I just run the turn table via rca into the in's on the mixer then the wires from the mixer into the in's on the sp?

I would get an amp but I use the sp with earphones and I don't really have room for speakers and such.

Cheers for all the input so far guys :D

If one channel is dead on the mixer you'll have to sample everything into your SP in mono which is fine. When you sample in stereo you have a greater chance of sounds clashing in your final mix unless you give some thought to how each layer of stereo image was originally done. Most things I just use mono, but certain things like strings with nothing else playing in the sample will sound nice and lush in stereo when put over mono drums and bass and what not.

maybe he means one stereo pair, like the left side is crapped on a dj mixer in that case he could still boost the stereo signal. i actually use a turntable with mono out though and it works fine for me. in all honesty the 404 has a much lower threshhold than my 808. i often use audacity to amplify and naturalize which tends to give the nicest level for me.
insert funny comment here.

It's ok now guys, I'm such a dumbass there was a switch on the back of the turntable which says rca in I switched it and now the signal is perfect, the volume has increased a lot  :D

I'm so excited now, about to spend my whole day chopping records :P

Cheers for all ya input though.
